You look like... a perfect fit,
For a girl in need... of a tourniquet.
But can you save me?
Come on and save me...
If you could save me,
From the ranks of the freaks,
Who suspect they could never love anyone.

'Cause I can tell... you know what it's like.
A long farewell... of the hunger strike.
But can you save me?
Come on and save me...
If you could save me,
From the ranks of the freaks,
Who suspect they could never love anyone.

You struck me dumb, Like radium
Like Peter Pan, or Superman,
You have come... to save me.
Come on and save me...
If you could save me,
From the ranks of the freaks,
Who suspect they could never love anyone,
Except the freaks,
Who suspect they could never love anyone,
But the freaks,
Who suspect they could never love anyone.

Come on and save me...
Why don't you save me?
If you could save me,
From the ranks of the freaks,
Who suspect they could never love anyone,
Except the freaks,
Who suspect they could never love anyone,
Except the freaks,
Who could never love anyone.

No, but "perfect fit" does.
this is brilliant songwriting emphasis on writing… lyrically beautiful stuff
The music Aimee provided for this soundtrack is incredible.  As is she.
'Fit' does not rhyme with 'tourniquet'.

All class ladies 100/10....
She was named one of the world's top 10 greatest living songwriters by NPRin 2006.

High praise indeed! I saw her at RockyGrass years ago - she filled in for a DNS artist. Been a fan ever since.
All-time favourite - save me from the ranks of the freaks who suspect they could never love anyone....

I'm guessing that they forgot about having a drummer and they went back later and added the drum line from Neil Young's Out on the Weekend.
SAVE ME! Great song, great lyrics.

Great song from one of my favorite movies. Aimee Mann and Paul Thomas Anderson - a soundtrack made in heaven.
Love the Mick Ronson like riff in the middle.

Phillip Phillips is surely a made up name but if it's not can I ask did he have his hair parted into 4 distinct quadrants?

Hey Sloggydog, for me it all started in school when the teachers called me Philip instead of Stephen and continues to this day.

The Philip Phillips you refer to probably had the same problem as me - only he had the foresight to change his name to solve the problem :)

p.s. I don't have my hair parted in 4 quadrants - only in 3 triangles.

My favorite movie hands down and her addition just makes it all that much better. Love!
The song's a 10, the movie's a 10. Each stands on its own.

This song (along with another) were written specifically for the movie. PT Anderson has said that Aimee's songs inspired the film. Artists of different mediums collaborate and are inspired by each others work. This song stands perfectly fine on it's own, but in context to the film it makes them both that much more powerful.

Personally, I don't want anyone (Hollywood producer or video expert) creating a visual for me. Either the song stands on it's own or it fails. I'll create my own visuals thank you.

This one has grown on me. 6->8
is that an accordion or squeezebox or some such carnival effect

There are many songs and soundtracks which say otherwise - I guess it depends on the circumstances and one's opinion.  At any rate, being paid for having one's music connected to a film would seem immensely better than having to wait tables or hang drywall.
Nothing cheapens a song like linking it up to a Hollywood movie.
Fun Fact: This song was written to/about actor Dave Foley (from Kids in the Hall and News Radio among others)

Excellent soundtrack in general- basically an Aimee Mann "album" save the weird Supertramp inclusion- they would have been better off sticking with Aimee for a couple more songs at the end.

Is it just me or does the accordion sound like a rip off of The Carpenters "Long Ago and Oh So Far Away" (not sure if that has been mentioned before here...??

It does sound similar, but a sequence of notes (i.e.: an arpeggiated minor chord), in an accordion solo, hardly constitutes a "rip-off".
This was her finest, most impressive accomplishment.
I stand humbled.

A beautiful little song and really catchy phrasing.  What's not to like?
i like her, and her band. Very good voice, very good live!
Boring - not my cup of tea

As with any song by Aimee Mann, it is most certainly for the faint-hearted.
I love this song. The live version is great, too.
This song is a bit draggy. I do particularly like the accordion, though.

There is a better version arround!!
LAME!

I've already commented but lets face it - if you don't relate you are in denial....
Finally saw the movie and thoroughly enjoyed it.  I like the song even better now.
I agree..  The Paradise is going POP on us!!    {#No}  Might have to go back to standard radio heaven forbid!! Can here this over and over and over again there..
That's funny.

Just saw the Portlandia episode featuring her... hilarious. She's got a dry wit delivery.
Just saw Aimee live.  She was great.  This song was an obvious highlight.
This song is absolutely fantastic in the film, it works great.
On its own it's not really that special.

Well, I've gone from ho-hum to decent on this one, so I guess it has grown on me a bit.  Don't think it'll get any higher than that for me though.

I never get tired of hearing Aimee Mann

Great.
I {#Hearteyes} Aimee.

SAVE ME...FROM SUSPECTING THAT I COULD NEVER LOVE ANYONE. - HAHAHA...JK...I LOVE SO MUCH IN THIS WORLD.  I would however love to love someone that is not afraid of love.  You know...a soulful love - healthy and happy.  Oh Aimee...you are so talented and amazing.
I just adore her voice. Her voice has so many colors in it (I know this sounds, regrettably, like some feedback you might hear on American Idol). {#Rolleyes}

I really like this.  I particularly like the line "save me from the ranks of the freaks who suspect they could never love anyone".  I can really relate to that.

At my wedding I made a spontaneous toast where I got up and thanked my wife for saving me from lonely future I had grown to expect.   Won me big points with my wife's friends.  This song always reminds me of that speach.

This one makes me turn down the volume every time it comes on the radio. Be it RP or the college station I listen to in my car.
I just can't get use to the sound of her voice and lately RP has been giving me many opportunities.
Maybe if RP played something else by Aimee I might start understanding her appeal, but this particular song is not doing it.

I gotta see that.  Aimee has always been a favorite. Heard an interview with her on NPR — really nice.  But she lamented she can't really push her voice to do anything special.  It's pretty much always the same. Which is OK by me.

She was hilarious on an episode of Portlandia.
Great song and Magnolia is one of my favorite movies.
Has this song become an RP test pattern or something? I liked this song once upon a time but I swear I hear it every other time I tune in (if that's in fact what one does online). I'm fast approaching the point of no return on this damn tune - stop, please stop! Just for a few months? :-)

Song and Aimee are meaningful...but lacks sorrowful emotion...like she's singing along with herself. Most of her stuff since her debut solo 'Whatever'...is drony and self brooding....sorry Aimee...I like you, but it's the same stuff.

Heh.

Having said what I did below, it looks as though the live version of this played less than 10 hours ago.

It is certainly okay with me but I can see how that might bug some people.

Pretty much the only song I like by Aimee. I find the rest of her stuff pretty bland.
