Sometimes I'm wishing it was farther away
I've got some wishes that I will never tell you
But you'll find out someday
Can't you hear the leaves blowing up and down the walk?
Don't you want to take a long drive with your lover where you can talk?
You can talk about the things you want to see
Take a drive with me
Outside it's getting colder
Inside it's been a little colder too
Sometimes I'm wishing that you would act just a little bolder
Maybe then I'd be a little bolder too
Can't you hear the leaves blowing up and down the walk?
Don't you want to take a long drive with your lover where you can talk?
You can talk about the things you want to see
Take a drive with me
Sometimes I'm wishing that the next town was closer
Sometimes I'm wishing it was farther away
If I had two wishes, then one would be to kiss you
And the other one is something I can't say

Dark as all hell, love it. Started saying this to my girlfriend, "don't wanna take a long drive with your lover? Where you can talk..." She loves it...
And right now I read your comment quoting the lyrics at the exact moment I hear Talmadge sing these words
I read his bio and I was like, Wait, what? Huh?
That certainly struck me. There's a movie script begging to be written, or at least a short essay.
the song is pretty agreable to listenthis guy that left a Lawyer job to be a poet and a singeri never found a wikipedia page as well written and showing how much he cares ...
Definitely! More like Cohen than Knopfler, I think. And that's an entirely good thing.
The song reminds me a little of Mark Knopfler's stuff. Nice, mellow, awesome.
yes i can hear him too
a little of Mark Knopfler?
This is like stealing a sound, guitar and voice from someone else.
People stealing voices now?

(I think it may have been something dirty...)
Couldn't agree more...

Though he is perhaps the best-known practitioner of it, Mark Knopfler did not invent the "clean-guitar-with-reverb sound", nor was he the first to play those "jabbing", staccato licks. He has obviously influenced many other guitarists but the electric guitar was invented in the early 1930s; there have been a lot of players since then. Anyhow, this guy's voice sounds very little like Knopfler's to me.

As others have commented about his guitar style I will just say that his singing voice is more 'listenable' to my ears because he is actually singing in his own native accent as opposed to the pseudo-American accent adopted by Mark Knopfler.
I hear that too. The guitar is very Knopfler-esque.
Well now, this is exactly what my wife and I like to do, tune in to RP, volume up and drive and whenever we'd PSD we just talk until the next track comes on that we want to crank up - sometimes we get a lot of talking in, sometimes it's mostly rocking out.
This song does have a slightly dark feel to it (Cohen-ish) and I like it enough to give a 7 rating to it.
And then pronounce it as Nopfler.
and then add atouch of Handsome Family (From True Detective)
I like.
My thoughts exactly! Love it. But I'd spell him Knopfler :-)

yep

very much so.
Real roads and not the endless concrete parking lots are where real people live, real stores sell things and people have time for mindless conversation. Concrete Highways are simply ways to get there quickly. Franchise stores, bored locals who know they'll never see you again...Nobody really cares about anything. Just make a buck and return to the real world...
This song I admit hits me hard.
Brings back a lot of memories, connects with the now,
and reminds me I used to be a driver.
Allows to look forward through the wind shield. The future comin at us.....
Like driving through the night in a fluffy flake snow storm.
Ka mone mon, take a drive wit me.
I'll bring jah back, an you safe 'n' sound...haha.. thanks RP !!!
very much so.
Just thinking that myself.
very much so.
Checked who the artist was as I thought also.
Nice.

this song always creeps me out.
Good album...
and add a splash of Chris Smithers.
For sure, but I am surprised so few commented on the creep factor!
I was back scrolling for that name !
,,and Mr Cohen,,just a hint of Hazelwood ?
Mark Knopfler has a twin brother?
Nope, but he has a brother and his name is David.
But i hear ya, Jeff sure has some similar licks in this song...
And a sprinkle of early Crash Test Dummies?

Stay safe sis.
"The mono effect" was an encoding glitch which was fixed in July. So unless you heard this before then the "effect" is on your end...
As if was the very first time that somebody use it, plus I don't find the mono effect in this song annoying while there is many others (Beatles) that personally stress my ear with the sharp and treble guitar on a side and the mid tone voice at the other one, not even brass!... anyway, my point is that I like the mono effect.
And putting apart all that about the mono thing, I like the song pretty much
You're welcome.
It does sound somewhat threatening...take a drive with me....sure Tony, do I have a choice?
Bourneville.
(Which is the name of a dark, deep, sink-into-sweet-oblivion chocolate here in the UK.)
Even more annoying: I am mostly deaf in my left ear. No hearing bones and no ear drum make me experience sound on that sound quite differently, and this song triggers my instinct to turn my head to the left to better hear the singer constantly.
So I pan this one more to the right than usual..
I can totally sympathize. I can't even tell if I would otherwise like the song. I can only managed to be annoyed that I can barely hear much of it.

Hmm, well, turn your earphones around. You know that will work for a single song.

Damn, I didnt notice before reading your comments... Now it's annoying DRAT!
out of the city, onto the seaside... like it!
