This reminds me of a religious gathering with the pomp and circumstance and even sans alcohol however the distinct difference is that in religious proceedings even though it is ritualistic it is coming from a place of sincerity because most of them are true believers.  This type of behavior is more akin to be fake nice to the boss and wearing your political face.  To nutshell it we crave authenticity:
