Yes, in the vein of cathartic humour, it would be amusing to watch Trump ask for political asylum in some Mid-Eastern country or Russia.

Perhaps they'd subject him to some enhanced, extreme vetting.

Nelson's nice. Big enough to not feel like fleeing to the coast every weekend, I think.

re humourless:    Hei, I did my best to deadpan adolescent bravado......... {#Biggrin}

re Nelson:  Folks in the Kootenays would be inclined to 'flee' to Calgary (4 to 6 hours) versus Vancouver (8 1/2 to 12 hours).  Spokane, WA is much closer.

But yes, big enough and culturally-vibrant enough to not feel like fleeing anywhere.  Except into the mountains for a day or a few days.

Doukabors, Japanese (some older victims of the WW II concentration camps), bohemians from all over the world, outdoor and wilderness enthusiasts, artists, musicians, writers, there are lots of interesting folks here.

Then there is the Valhalla Wilderness area, now a minimally developed provincial park on the west shore of Slocan Lake about 50 minutes drive from Nelson.  It is very nice.  There is so much spectacular beauty in the American west, I don't want to launch into meaningless superlatives.

The linked op-ed article is about about Canadian sub-cultures, not US politics.  With pictures and a little humour.  Reads true to me.

I used to live in the Slocan Valley close to Nelson.  If you have never heard of Nelson, British Columbia, well, I am sorry to pass such harsh judgement, but you are simply not cool, man.   Nelson sits on the west arm of Kootenay lake in the West Kootenay district in southwestern British Columbia, a modest day or two or three road trip for most Americans living in the west.

So I'm sitting here on the boat and looking at the information display on the marina kiosk. The temperature is reporting as 14C. It's not cycling around or ever showing Fahrenheit.  This is certainly not what I expected of a Trump presidency. Best case - we've finally gone metric. Worst case, the war has started and we've already been annexed by Canadia. Either way, I'm okay with it.

Easy for you to say. All you need to do is slip your mooring and sail off to the Bahamas.

Don't forget to bring paper American money to start fires on the beach with.

Good idea.  That way American refugees will linger, and if they eat too much poutine, fall off into a deep slumber.

If we really wanted to keep Americans out, we would build the wall with Lutefisk.   But then we might have to pay for it ourselves with maybe a small subsidy or two from Norway.

:-)   I suppose you could try crowd-funding your move to Canada.

Or hit the downtown streets with a cap and a sign that reads:  "Need funds to move north."

Which is interesting because Facebook is somewhat like celebrity narcissism technology for the masses, no cierto? {#Cheesygrin}
