I wondered about the sons, too, Alexandra. Surely the producers invited them to participate. . . .
But in any case, what a wonderful show. What an amazing guy. And I'm thinking, again, of what he might have done, given another few decades. . . .

Alexandra wrote: Did you happen to see the John Lennon exhibit at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (in 2001)? That had to have been my favorite exhibit yet.....the way they made a room that alternately played four of his best songs, with the handwritten lyrics enlarged and backlit.....and the paper bag of belongings that they returned to Yoko, from the hospital with——yes, the bloody glasses——and just EVERYTHING. Such a wonderful tribute.
I had a dream a couple of years ago that John was back on the earth and sitting on my mom's couch at a family gathering. Just sitting there all quiet and unassuming, and looking about as old as he would had he lived. I remember thinking, "Holy crap, John Lennon is in our living room - and this is my one and only chance to say something to him. What the hell do I say? Where do I even START?"
And so I knelt by his side, and told him how much I missed him, and how much the world could sure use some of his lyrical wisdom these days. He just smiled and put a hand over mine reassuringly. Then I thanked him for sharing his gifts with the world.
That was one awesome dream.
Awesome dream for sure, Alexandra. Wow.
Great stuff on NPR this morning, including some pretty extensive excerpts from the tapes made by the guy who interviewed John and Yoko for Playboy just before his murder. So wonderful to hear that voice. . . .
John would probably have long since forgiven the "man" who murdered him, long since have let go of his hatred and rage. I have not.

Everybody's talking and no one says a word Everybody's making love and no one really cares There's nazis in the bathroom just below the stairs. Always something happening and nothing going on There's always something happening cooking and nothing in the pot They're starving back in China so finish what you got. They're starving back in China so finish what you got. Nobody told me there'd be days like these Nobody told me there'd be days like these Nobody told me there'd be days like these Strange days indeed strange days indeed. Everybody's runnin' and no one makes a move Everyone's a winner and no one seems to lose. There's a little yellow idol to the north of Katmandu. Everybody's flying and no one leaves the ground Everybody's crying and no one makes a sound. There's a place for us in movies you just gotta stay around. Nobody told me there'd be days like these Nobody told me there'd be days like these Nobody told me there'd be days like these Strange days indeed most peculiar Mama. Everybody's smoking and no one's getting high Everybody's flying and never touch the sky There's Ufo's over New York and I ain't too surprised. Nobody told me there'd be days like these Nobody told me there'd be days like these Nobody told me there'd be days like these Strange days indeed most peculiar. Mama. I really miss you, John

So long ago and yet I remember it like it happened today. I guess it was one of those "shared experiences" for an entire generation. May the next generation have a happier "shared experience".

Just a matter of taste I guess, I used to read him most sunday mornings in the Calender section of the L.A. Times, it was kind of a self-torture, he hated almost every band I liked.
That would get annoying... In the good news dept., one of these was waiting for me when I got home last night. I arbitrarly selected Magical Mystery Tour to listen to first on the big rig. All remastered tracks sounded terrific, although I'm afraid I Am the Eggman was bounced between tape recorders so many times that remastering it proved to be impossible, it seems. Too bad, too, as it's one of my favorites!
