I'm going to have to look into the Balance of Nature product line again.  That's $70 every 30 days for 1 person with a subscription.  A fixed income only goes so far and inflation is killing food prices.

I just got off the phone with Nestle and they said that the issues of last summer have been resolved.  They are simply unable to keep up with demand. The demand has grown exponentially. They even built a second plant and that is still not enough capacity to meet demand.  I guess that many people are having a hard time affording actual food and are looking at things like Boost to make sure that they have some minimum level of nutrition coming in.  Makes sense.

I dunno anymore.  Everything is harder and more complicated.

I agree it should be that way but it sure doesn't seem to be. Frustrating

you can peruse high protein meal replacement powders (trying and tweaking)
older usually means a need for higher protein (plant based is available too)
different flavors and combinations (variety can help)
i throw a scoop of m/r with a bit of collagen and other stuff from time to time
i use a shaker with a mixing ball instead of a thermal and just add room temp or cold water
also have two or three shakers, wash and let dry for a day or two
just a thought

Costco seems to have Ensure; if you're not a member it might be worth it just for this. Free shipping with a $75 order.
Walmart has Boost  In an expensive pinch, look for the Naked Protein smoothies. 30g protein in a pint, and they're pretty tasty. That's about 1.5x the protein per ounce and I can tell you they will hold me for hours if I'm skiing and can't get to the lodge for actual lunch. Bolthouse does something similar, the coffee/mocha ones are what I usually go with. There are lower-protein ones that are more fruit/sugar that I keep around in the summer because they're more of a snack treat but there's still something there. Problem is they're not really shelf stable for long so you can't just toss them in your car for later.

Chocolate Boost is my preferred.  Keeps me going and it also satisfies that chocolate thing.  I don't keep them in my car, but I will bring them with me.  I keep two bottles at each store I work in and bring two more every time I show up, rotating them.  In case I run out the door and forget to toss them in my bag.  I'm used to getting 24 bottle cases at Sam's Club for $27.  Smaller lots are just too expensive.  Walmart still has it but at a much higher price.  The smaller sizes like 6 packs are going to dry up soon, too.  They're $10 a pop for the moment.

Oh and about nuts and other crunchy things with dentures ?  Nope, non starter.  Takes a lot of pressure and placement to get them to break up in the first place and then the pieces are sharp and get underneath.  There's a whole lot of things I'll just never eat again.  Food has taken a different place in my life.  Now it's more about making sure I eat something that can sustain me with as little hassle as possible.  In this process I have become pretty much gluten free without trying.  Being gluten free also helps in your ability to absorb nutrients through your stomach.  Gluten interferes with absorption.  It's more than about people with Celiac disease.

SFW has some good ideas about Costco.

Your PCP might be able to refer you to a good dietician who could find good alternatives to Ensure and Boost. Both have a lot of sugar IIRC. A dietician can help you determine how much protein you need (Americans obsess about protein) as well as carbs. The vitamins in Boost and Ensure can be found in fruits and vegetables.

Unsalted mixed nuts, pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds are good snacks for protein if your teeth/dentures can handle them. Bananas are good but high in carbs if you need to watch carbs; apples and oranges are lower in carbs, All three are good for the road.

Good luck!

It's my whey, or the high whey.

Here is another little known thing about whey.  Around here in Ohio, can't say about other places, they will spray a whey / brine mixture on the dry roads before a major snow storm arrives.  It lowers the freezing temperature of water, as does salt, brine and sugar.  It is also non corrosive and relatively benign to the environment.

So there are other uses for whey other than food that more than likely are contributing to demand increase / overall shortages of whey.  Kinda like when corn production was diverted for making ethanol, it created shortages of corn as food and also drove corn prices higher.
