OK-TY.I appreciate the advice you gave me about CLX and KO.
I just needed to vent and maybe shouldn't have said that about you..
If and when I become a perfect person,I'll apologize further.Until then, please accept the fact that I understand you only jumped on me once,so let's call it even.
CLX has been a performer, maybe overly so. I'd look at rebalancing (but not getting out) right now.
Try to assume positive intent.Good luck to you, but remember, burning bridges only lights the path you've already crossed.
You were given comfort, care, advice, sympathy and much more from many. Even now you are getting a measure of consideration that is above what your behavior deserves based on your history and circumstance. That you chose to keep throwing matches on the bridge and alienating yourself from people who genuinely wished you well is on you. That our efforts were not enough for you, or you felt some one else got more sympathy/help than you did is not our problem.
I still hope you can get it together and am a bit saddened that you think I've done you some kind of wrong. But that's your choice to make, I'm entirely comfortable with my conscious.
I hope for nothing but the best for you and your family.

My town is very old, and so my Rotary buds are a mix of G.I. and silent generation with a handfull of boomers. I'm one of 3 gen Xers in the mix (other districts have more, but my town is a bit on the old side). I work with a bunch of Gen Ys, both as employees and customers. It's interesting to see how each interprets and assigns value to things. It's interesting to see the disconnect between groups. It's nice when they come together and find middle ground. I don't claim to always get others views, but I do try to remember that they have them for a reason and those reasons are valid to them no matter the process that got them there. It's important to look at the benefits of the differences, not just the confusing odd behavior of the youngs/olds.
So I was doing some general generational reading and it turns out I have a lot of my tags wrong. I didn't realize how far back the G.I. generation went. There are still a handful around but we will be losing them soon. The silent generation guys aren't getting any younger either...
Thank you for that.Believe me,I think you are one of the kindest people on RP.
Obviously my comments had nothing to do with you and I hope you understand that.
I think you're a great,kind hearted person.
I've got a dying Father and a brother who will probably be blind after tomorrows operation.
I just wish this was a place like it used to be,where people could come to for advice and support without being subjected to personal attacks, which you have never done to me or anyone. I just wanted to wish Kurt peace and let the uncouth individuals that I named know that I didn't appreciate getting thrown under the bus and onto the ice flow during the time of my most stressful need for a little support.
I don't feel comfortable here anymore and hoped my comment would make them think about the way they treat others over minor disagreements.
I'm sorry if I upset you.
Peace,Alan

SFW-I have total respect for you, although I did jump on you that one time, which was uncalled for on my part.I know you went through a lot of stress with A and can relate ,and hope you understand that I was just a jerk that day(one of many).
Antigone(I've always loved the Sophocles RP name)-I think it would be impossible for such a nice person as yourself to draw my ire,I'd say that is not possible or ever going to be the case. You are kind and caring,I can recognize that in people.
Hey Beaks-STFU dude.If you need me to help you with technical advice, you've got my email addy.
Bokey, at the risk of drawing your ire, I just have to say that comments such as this alienate me more than anything I've read by the four individuals you single out.
I wish you comfort and peace.

Interesting dialogue. . Generations come with their own set of defining experiences. Of course, on a way more macro scale, so do individuals.
Sometimes — often — we, as individuals, cannot quite get ourselves to see the other person's perspectives. We see how the other person is not seeing things from our perspective, but fail to see how we are not seeing things from his or her perspective. It is like a blind spot.
That inherent but human flaw plays out in ways big and small.

I think so. Even to the point of almost starting a thread on the subject last week.
There was the 'Generation Gap' discussion from decades ago.
I think that this current public overhaul of healthcare is pitting generations against each other to a large degree.
Kurt-RP is an infested shithole mostly full of people who think they are high and mighty. There were a few exceptions, but these nasty assholes driven most of them out.
I suggest you give up arguing with the POS's and let it go. Islander,Slabby,Sean,Winter, etc are not worth your time.
They are self centered, cruel nasty people who will never have any sense of decency or any concern about anyone but themselves.
They are false hearted people who have absolutely no morals or even the most minute sense of decency.
You are so much better than these inhuman animals,I suggest you stop arguing with them
They are cruel, sad, evil people.Let them have their pitiful, miserable lives and let it go.

My generation was supposed to be the slackers - so caught up in our video games we would never amount to anything. You were a bunch of pot smoking hippies who would never amount to anything. Kids now are so caught up with their iPhones they can't even talk to each other, they will never amount to anything. Yet we always seem to manage. I've managed to provide for myself pretty well, and at the same time work with some great Millenials on a water purification project for Honduras. I'm pretty sure they have smoked Pot, as have I, and yet, like you, we all manage to do okay.
There will always be generational tensions. Resources will need to be expended in ways that will not always be popular. But if we focus on the good, and work toward what is right, things will fall into place. I'm not naive, nor am I apathetic, I'm optimistic twinged with a bit of realism. It won't ever be 'perfect', but it will be good. As long as good people are willing to put forth their efforts, we will move lurchingly forward through our mistakes.
Lastly, for the record, it's not a warning against playing with fire that irked me, it was the "Apathy has no quarter or safe refuge, nor will they hear the bullet." comment. Maybe it's my new age sensitivity or the proximity to other more recent and direct threats of violence, but it rubbed me wrong. Perhaps it was a joke or an off the cuff bit, but it fell flat on my ears when uttered along with calls for a rationed fact based debate. I'll let it go and assume it was just my misinterpretation.

Yes, as do I. I do not wish harm or ill will on anyone for a host of reasons. Karma being the biggest reason. I consciencely refrain from laughing or reveling in others misfortune again primarily because of Karma. It was a change in my attitude and began in my 20's. Hard to live like that at first, but well worth the effort in the end. Always taking the high road is its own reward. While I may still fail, it is always the goal.
If you consider the warning, do not play with fire because you might get burned a threat of violence towards the warnee, then I do not know what to say.
We all take away something different from the same thing for a host of reasons and circumstances. Reading the song comments here is ample proof of that.
Lastly, what my generation has in common with his (Thomas') is conscription. Your's does not. It probably has never entered the fabric of your thinking. Pardon that assumption if not true. My generation was the last to face it in the US and other than Israel, in the free world, to the best of my knowledge. I have wriiten here often about the draft and having skin in the game and apathy. My feelings about apathy are hardly new in these terms.
My somewhat snarky comment about being irrelevant is based upon the rampant apathy to be found in our society today. Apathy renders history and those who have come before irrelevant.
I do hope that you get the book. As you read it, imagine yourself growing up and facing the depictions of war in Nam and how it would be growing up knowing that it is what awaits you as your reward for coming of age in the US in the 60's. The book is much more than the descriptions of war in Nam, but they are what they are and anyone coming of age back then facing the draft knew of the insanity waiting there. Imagine yourself growing up and facing a highly likely death in a rice paddy or jungle in a strange, twisted far away place because of a government that went out of its way to lie to you, everyday, as you grew up. Let it also be known, once again, that I have nothing but respect for those who went and served. I also have open contempt for those who did not honor them as they came home and spit upon them among many other terrible things.
I gave my copy to hippie during my last visit with him some years ago. While we spoke a lot about his service in Nam, he never did get back to me on the book. Having read the book and knowing what I know, I am not surprised.
Pardon me for going so deep into this. Its just the way it came out ...

The poem says nothing about bullets though. And certainly nothing so dark as a threat to any who fail to feel your zeal for a subject at hand. And your follow ups of "Regardless, my comment on apathy was honest and sincere." and "Consider it a warning or cautionary thought, not an accusation." are certainly a misinterpretation of where Thomas would have you direct your rage at the onslaught of advancing years. I prefer to think of the poem as a missive on how we should live rather than how we should die, so yes we see it differently. But I doubt that is influenced any more by our different generations than it is simply by how we see ourselves in this world. And really, Thomas was a generation before you, so maybe he would view us both as latecomers who can't feel his unique pain.
You are as irrelevant as you want to be. But I do get tired of threats of violence (regardless of where / who they come from). There is enough silliness to worry about in the real and digital worlds. Here as in meatspace let's try to disagree without coming to blows.
