This topic, quickly gets complicated. Let,'s play " devils advocate" . I accept that, at the moment, gifted folks know bad "poetry". But what in  a years time , Could an artist claim to bad poetry was the " AI me"  and good poetry wa "me" . How would we know ? In the end ,the art  gonna depend on whether we all appreciate the new songs .Somehow, but I defo, do not think anyone knows the end results

For fun...I decided to do the same thing just now, but "like Eminem".  With his producers and voice... I'm sure it's a hit:

Prompt: Write Christmas song lyrics in the style of Eminem. Don't mention Christmas. Make it feel cold and lonely
(Verse 1)
Yo, it's so cold, it's like the world's on freeze,
Walkin' through this icy breeze, got me fallin' to my knees.
Lonely nights, street lights, shadows on the wall,
Silent whispers in the wind, ain't no comfort at all.

(Chorus)
It's a cold world, no warmth in sight,
Just a lonely soul, wandering through the night.
No jingle bells, no festive cheer,
Just the echo of my footsteps, is all I hear.

(Verse 2)
Snowflakes fallin', like my dreams to the ground,
Lost in my thoughts, in this silence profound.
Empty streets, empty heart, no one around,
In this cold, cold world, my solitude is found.

(Chorus)
It's a cold world, no warmth in sight,
Just a lonely soul, wandering through the night.
No jingle bells, no festive cheer,
Just the echo of my footsteps, is all I hear.

(Outro)
So here I stand, under the pale moonlight,
In this cold, cold world, on this cold, cold night.

Yo! Yo! Yo!

I'm not averse to the use of AI, and as Wilson said "it's not going away".  For the music it could hard to tell, especially since so many recording artists compose with identifiable (and often re-used) chord structures, but it's still discernable in lyrics to me.  They always look like a translation from another language into English - like the writing in a spam email.  I am not familiar with a lot of Wilson's lyrics but I doubt he would've written lyrics like these:
All the world sleeps on in silence/ Wrapped in a blanket of snow
But when the morning awakensThe beauty of life starts to flow

Challenged by a friend last week on why I’d never done a Christmas song, I protested it wasn't really me, and besides I didn’t think I had it in me to write suitably Christmassy lyrics. "No problem”, he said, "we’ll get ChatGPT to do it for you!", upon which he instructed the AI to generate Christmas lyrics in the style of Steven Wilson. Which it proceeded to do so. By the yard, in fact, I was shocked at how instantaneous and easy it was to guide it ("don’t actually mention Christmas" we said to it, "make it feel more lonely”…etc)

I’m still not entirely sure what I think about AI, the knee-jerk reaction is to consider it a threat to a musician like me, but it’s clearly not going away, so this is my experiment to try embracing it and using it as a tool in the creative process. And of course also to have some fun doing something I would never normally have thought about doing, the archetypal seasonal song. December Skies is the result, swiftly recorded last weekend and written in collaboration with an Artificial Intelligence version of myself. I wonder what people will make of it. I wonder what I make of it.

In keeping with the artificial intelligence theme, the visualiser for December Skies has also been generated using a purpose built AI system created by Miles Skarin. The video is based on imagery drawn from some of my previous videos then placed into 2D and 3D backdrops.

Music by Steven Wilson, guitar solo and backing vocals by Randy McStine.

December Skies (lyrics by ChatGPT).

In the hush of a long winter’s dream
Through a window the candlelight gleams
Veiled in whispers the stillness of night
On a canvas of stars in the sky

All the world sleeps on in silence
Wrapped in a blanket of snow
But when the morning awakens
The beauty of life starts to flow

December skies will carry me home

In the forest where moonlight it shines
The grip of the frost on the pines
Then the air weaves the warmth of a song
Still the heartbeat of winter goes on

Steven Wilson

Very nice at first listen, imho.  Steven's music really compliments the lyrics in a dreamy way.  The video part works well, too.

An easy 8.

I'm going to have to check it his new album.

Edit: just bought it.

Agree. That weird public rant about why he should be able to smoke (which has a strange dissonance with him getting that extreme face work) really put me off.

Well that was interesting: First this post, then the one in another thread where I recommended BootLiquor Radio for a country stream... It's now playing this, which I've never heard, but is 15 years old and it fits right in with this new stuff.
