Hey imnotpc, I cant find your post to respond to but on terms of bible verses I think it depends on what you're looking for. When things look bleak I like psalm 139 ( disregard the stuff at the end about "my enemies" etc. I think psalm 119 is another of my favorites— raise you up on eagles wings, bare you on the break of dawn... John 10:10 is a nice verse- I've come that you might have life & have it abundantly. Also Romans ch 5 ( pretty much all if Romans.) In terms of gospels many people will recommend John- it's very beautifully written. But if you're looking for "facts" I like Mark because it is the earliest gospel recorded in written form. In general, the big thing ,IMO, when reading scripture is to read it within the framework offend historical context in which it was written. Be aware of who the target audience was & who the author was. And keep in mind that scripture was transmitted initially orally and then recorded ( NT & first five books of Hebrew scripture ) in Greek. And it's been translated extensively over the past few thousand years. Also keep on mind that most scholars largely find the Kings James version to be a poor translation. It was translated by Erasmus- he was essentially commissioned by king James so it's a bit biased. More accepted versions are exegeted by a committee of scholars. That might be more than you were looking for - but I love this stuff. Could talk about it for hours.
I'll try to find some time to read these suggestions. My bible is a bit dusty. I certainly could use some more spiritually but over the years I find it more and more disturbing to even try and think about God. Where others find comfort I experience anxiety. I know that shouldn't be, yet it is.
That probably depends on what bible your're interested in. I like Ecclesiastes 3:16-22. I doubt it will benefit you at all, I'm sorry to say, but who knows..? There is a great deal of magic left in the universe. Humans can use all the humility they can get.

Ecc 3:17 I said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for a time there for every purpose and for every work.

Ecc 3:19 For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all vanity.
Ecc 3:20 All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.

Ecclesiasties is an amazing book. Pretty much sums up life. My husband & I had a verse from ecc in our wedding- a two fold cord is not quickly broken. My paraphrase doesnt do it justice.
I don't know much about Mensa. I'm a student of a long suffering cause...that of knowing something of the mysterious connection between all things...It's all the rage on the planet Parallel... My Teacher is into the details like you wouldn't imagine. We're investigating dreams a lot lately. I don't really hear the discourse unless I quietly listen from between the lines...

OK, I'm not really religious, but I am curious. Open invitation to anyone on this thread. I've been around here long enough and made enough posts for many of you to get to know me at least a little. What bible verse would I benefit from the most, and why?

It seems to be the antithesis of dogma, where you as a free willed being constructs your fleshly vehicle from the ever changing context, perspective, and perceptions of the world around you, and ply a trade with corruption while plotting a course for eternity....the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen...but by faith alone.
Consequently, faith results from listening, and listening results through the word of the Messiah. Romans 10:18
So, we push and pull and wail and gnash and placate a gnawing fear that something just is not right with the world, and we're right. No rocket science there. Still, there seems to be a seed growing into a tree of knowledge and peace in the hardest of willing hearts. This RP that we love has all the elements for success or failure in the recognition of that needful hunger and thirst for truth, for kinship, for the Resurrection of hope. Music is a great equalizer, after all. Pain and ugliness increasingly are but fading remnants of failures gone by the way of the broken trust between us as humans and between our dominion constituting so many uncounted blessings. It doesn't seem that way right now, but the night is yet young...It comes for us, this reckoning. Fear will block its own victims from victory; in the stillness of the darkening gloom; in the waning season...Being steadfast and patient, the true world unending will rend this temporal illusion we know as real life to shreds.
In short, be of good cheer. Justice will indeed prevail. Of this there is no doubt.
