The demons got the better of you
That's what demons do
The demons can't destroy, nothing can
Destroy the soul or rise above the lightning of a music man

We had a rich and wild adventure
Life in love and melody
Battle and we ruled it
Recorded every felony
Think that they can have you
They're deluded and confused

The demons got the better of you (better of you, better of you)
Well, that's what demons do (demons do, demons do)
The demons can't destroy, nothing can
Destroy the soul or rise above the lightning of a music man

Oh, and the soul of a man wrestles with the pack
Seems like an advantage when they're going to attack
And nothing can can reign, above the music in the heart

It was always on the cards, no use denying it
Devil offered something, you were up for trying it
Stashed it in the grooves, now we're dancing to the beat

The demons got the better of you (better of you, better of you)
Well, that's what demons do
(Better of you)
(Better of you)
(Demons do)
But demons can't destroy you, can't destroy you, nothing can

The justice swift
In name and soul and spirit
The justice swift
And we're standing by, we're standing by

The demons got the better of you (better of you, better of you)
Well, that's what demons do (demons do, demons do)
The demons can't destroy, nothing can
Destroy the soul or rise above the lightning of a music man

Hey, I've heard the first four bars, and, hey, it's the Pretenders, so I automatically give it at least a 7... might go up...

Interesting. I have the same knee-jerk reaction but in my case it goes to 1.

They’ve got worse…. Solid 4
Big fan of the Pretenders…. Just not this song..

Nice to see Martin Chambers still rockin with Chrissie.

I saw the Pretenders in the '80's and Martin was amazing on the drums, doing an great solo at one point. So, yes, I'm glad he's back with the band.
best dj now

Holy crap, 2020?! She's still active? Props.

If you're a Chrissie Hynde fan, I would suggest her Stockholm album. Her best work ever IMHO and exceptionally well-produced.

Yes!  Thanx RP!

"they're" still active. and thank goodness.
If you can't make money hating someone, why do it?

Ohio reggae? It starts like "Welcome to Jamrock."
They hate us because we saved a human life
Chrissie Hynde does reggae.  Curious, different, surprising. It could be a grower. 7 from the intrigued Nottingham jury.
I wonder who Chrissy had in mind when she wrote this?
Hate for Sale from a rather hateful woman.
Once got told to shut up and sing in NOLA, after going off on random rants
Chrissie still has the voice..  Lovely.
I'm thinking the album carries a message. An interview with Chrissie revealed her Dad was fan of the orange man, IIRC
I'm sure there are other decent tracks off this new Pretenders album.  Keep hearing this one over and over.  OK I know it's great and I gave a 9 but now I'm thinking twice.

1st time I've heard it! I had to give it a 10!

Same here! ...It reminds me a little bit of The Specials, with its "ska beat"!
Adding to Halloween playlist 🎃
Tasty shades and echoes of The Viscounts' Harlem Nocturne and The Specials' Ghost Town in there, dig!
Didn't know Chrissie was one of Joe Strummer's Mescaleros!

Smart get.

Why do I keep hearing Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros?

We have medication for that.  Will require a hospital visit though.

I dunno, it'd be close race between Chrissie Hynde and Joan Jett.

Hardly! Joan has nothing on Chrissie Hynde. What a body of work and still at it with great, original music over 40 years later. One of the best lyricists in rock. Joan is ok but hardly in the same league as Chrissie Hynde and The Pretenders.

Damn that groove! Chrissy still rocks!

Rock on, Ms. Hynde.

Pretenders sandwiched between Neil Young and Pink Floyd. Only on RP!

I really like this one!
Biggest disappointment of the past concert season (not) was not seeing them in TO due to Covid. Sounds like they've nary skipped a beat.

They certainly nailed the album title for 2020!
Holy....sh...I mean Moly....you are hitting all the right notes on this Friday evening. while I be trapped in my little home (Covid-19) with only me and my 2 sweet kitties.  Thank you for another life saving day!! !!

Yay! And, so far, (1st listen)   Chrissie still seems to "have it" but,, if course, haven't heard whole album, band seems mellower than prev. Pretenders.

nice reggae back beat!
Almost sounds like Pretenders circa 1980 and that's a good thing.
