Lowly deserter, sing that old song,
And sing a new one for the men
Still in battle, far from heaven;
Raise your voice up and sing to them
Lowly, lowly, it must be lonesome,
Take a hard look at yourself,
And your brother still in battle;
Sing his praises, or don't sing again
When that question comes to find you,
Don't deny you never ran,
And when that feeling comes to take you,
Take you walking the streets of hell
When that question comes to find you,
Don't deny you never ran,
And when that feeling comes to take you,
Take you walking the streets of hell

New words to am old tune.  like it though.
LOVE the horns!
Recorded in New Orleans?
happy feet!
My volume doesn't go high enough to do this song justice.

Well {#Notworthy} to you, BillG, once again....your little computer program is sure kicking ass with the coupling of Darkness, Darkness followed by this tune.  I wonder if you still use the same program that was featured in that interview 10ish years ago.  You're an enigma, BillG; larger than life and yet mostly faceless to us RPsters, listening attentively to the tunes you play, trying our best to grasp the pieces that tie these tracks together.
Any idea this was coming back in the 70s, when you were spinning actual records?  Boy have the tables turned!  I'm enjoying the positives of the digital age and remember with fondness those years ago when things seemed simpler by today's standards.  LONG LIVE RP!

I need to search that interview out.  Would love to see how the playlist is created.  Have over 79K tracks and would love a way to generate some 'electic' playlists from the varied tracks.

I am sure I have heard this melody before in another song - does anybody know the 'other' one?

Most of it sounds like a pretty traditional "folk music" progression (i - iv - v) and melody, in a minor key.  There could be a lot of songs to which it sounds similar in different parts, but some bits do remind me of something specific, which I cannot identify either.  It's a good song - nice instrumentation.

This is new to me, but I really like it very much!
Saw him live this year at Montreux Jazz Festival and yes, he does like to ramble!! Pretty good show but he didn't like the audience much, too noisy for his liking, wanted complete silence so he could self indulge!! Still worth seeing though.
LOL I just went to buy this on iTunes to discover I already had it ... I guess I have too much music, 'cause it got buried!

Phenomenal talent. Another great piece of writing performed with huge passion.

I'm saddened that this is mastered way too hot though, compare it to his tracks 'Fitzcarraldo' or 'Revelate' - there is a huge difference. OK, that gripe sounds a bit anal, but it really does affect musical enjoyment IMHO.

Once (in a while).
Glen Hansard rocks! And, like Bruce Springsteen, Melissa Etheridge, and others you haven't really heard his music until you see him perform live, where he is one of the best performers around.

cool portrait : )
