People, I want to tell you everything today
People, I want to tell you everything now
People, I should tell you everything today
People, I should tell you everything now

What surprised me, in the whole of Malawi
What I've seen in Nkhata Bay
Small children dropping out of school now
Small children know men today
Small children are married nowadays
Small children of 9 years have babies – Mayiwe!

Ah-lalala waaah, Ah-yayaya eeeeh!
Ah-yayaya ooooh, Ah-yayaya ooooh!
Ah-yayaya today, Ah-yayaya Mayiwe!
Ah-yayaya today, Ah-yayaya Mayiwe!

It's true! It's true!

People, let me tell you everything now
People, let me tell you everything
People, I want to tell you everything
They said I should tell you everything now
At Njaya, I want to tell you everything
At Mayoka, I want to tell you everything

What surprised me, in the whole of Malawi
What I've seen there, in Nkhata Bay
Seeing the whole Malawi…
Seeing the whole Africa
Our destination is (Hell) fire – Mayiwe!

Ah-yayaya waaah, Ah-yayaya eeeeh!
Ah-yayaya ooooh, Ah-yayaya Mayiwe! – Mayiwe!
Ah-yayaya waaah, Ah-yayaya oooh!
Ah-yayaya today, Ah-yayaya Mayiwe!

Spoken Voice: Those who are able to listen, let them do so

It's true, It's true mama, It's true, It's true
More Fire – More Fire

Spoken voice: That's the message, if you understand, you understand. If not, that's your own fault

My rating is low because I dislike this kind of music. Funny how you getting labeled racist because you don't like something that happens to be from an author of a different culture. I grew up listening to a different kind of music, and sadly that made me biased, but RP tends to share a lot of different music genres, making people more educated and open for something new. It doesn't happen instantaneously but it'll grow on somebody.

If you think music education and expanded horizons are for "somebody" else, then maybe RP is not the right station for you?

"this kind of music"is exactly what's playing when the OP made his comment.🐨
Never heard an African song like this.  It sounds like it's enginered for rock and roll taste, but it's a great sound.  Why the negs?

And, "snob" was polite!! Clearly has other issues. Maybe racist, maybe not. But, definitely has issues. That certainly warrant a bit more coarse than "snob"!! H8rs gonna hate!!

Anyone hearing Arcade Fire's Rebellion Lies in this?

Sounds like a bog standard very simple baseline to me, as used in e.g probably hundreds of punk songs.

Making an assumption about what I may have or may not have said for no other reason than profiling me is racist.Calling a song rubbish is not racist. If a song does not connect to the majority of the station's audience that also does not make that audience racist. Trying to turn it into a racism issue is rather pathetic. Are you really that insecure? The rest of your diatribe does not even warrant a response. It is only a feeble attempt at trolling. Is that a Jewish surname that you have there?

I do too. Was about to make the same comment as you, but for once had the good sense to scroll down :-)

Yeah. Racism. This music is juvenile, repetitive and technically challenged, there are many other bands from Africa that are far better. Pointing that out is stupid and racist, right?

You may not be racist but sure as fuck are a snob.

thanks for that - great!

sad lyrics - catchy and happy melody (life in Africa I wonder?)
mire fiyah
no.

Beautiful. I used to live in Nkhotakota, not far from Nkhata Bay where Gasper is from. Tsalani bwino, achimwene!
Such an annoying track, not even gonna say anything about the lyrics.
It's true. I smiled at a young girl in Malawi and she burst into tears..........it was explained to me that she thought I wanted her for her body.
She might have been 13.
Terrific track and melody — countered by the lyrics. True and tragic.
This is fun {#Jump}

was until I read the lyrics {#Sorry}
Most enjoyable! Had to come see who the artist is as it reminded me of my time in west Africa. Hope to hear more like this!

Some of the greatest songs in history are juvenile, repetitive, and technically unimpressive (the Rolling Stones, the White Stripes, the Knack, Herman's Hermits, the Beatles have songs that come immediately to mind).  What matters is that the artist capture a moment that connects with an audience, regardless of how they deliver it.  So, yes, to single this out as juvenile, repetitive and technically challenged is racist.  Have you ever referred to any other Western band in this way?  Probably not.

Sorry I can't stand it.

I've noticed... all non-English songs, especially those made by people in Africa & Asia have poor marks here. Yet, at the same time, U2, Roy and other BS bands could make a song with belching and farting and people would still give them good marks.

Talk about stupidity and racism.

Wait a minute, is this that guy from that viral video from roughly a decade (?) ago?  It had this guy playing/singing this song alone on a beach, playing this massive 10-foot guitar thing with a mallet or something like that.  What a trip; I can't believe I remember that.
sounds sooo nice, amusing !
Love!
This is why I'm so against the skip button on RP. I would be tempted to skip this but I know it connects the last and next song together.
Good feel.
This is super-cute. Too bad the low rating.

While your observation on ratings is likely accurate, I cannot agree with your conclusion. I do not think RP listener ratings are a result of “racism” or even “stupidity”. I find RP listeners to be fairly well informed about music; that is why they are on this site.

We are though, as a society, quite western-centric when it comes to music. That is why I do not like the term “world” as a genre of music. It suggests there is the music from this continent (and Britain), everything else can be lumped together as “world music”. There are many worlds of wonderful music out there. Thanks RP for introducing us to it.

Today I received the CD of Spare Dog Records. I love this artist. He has a message for the world. Now I am looking for the lyrics of his other songs.

I gave it an 8 for that reason. There are not enough protest songs these days. I hope RP will play more Gasper Nali.
Thanks for introducing Gasper Nali to me. Just orderd his CD from Spare Dog Records.
I thought the same - a bouncy jolly song.... and then I read the lyrics
Yikes! Some pretty dark subject matter there.
Bouncy and jolly. Could be a grower. {#Yes}
