We packed our bags and said farewell
Untied the knot and raised the sail
We threw our hearts into the sea
Forgot all of our memories
The wind was sweet and smelled of home
The sea was rough and felt unknown
Escaping shores of lunacy
Dawn light, twilight, infinity
Can we keep our baring straight
Or will we be blown off course
Are we instruments of fate?
Do we really have a choice?
A voice whispers in the gales
Like in the songs and childhood tales
Where krakens raging in the sea
Crack ships into a million pieces
Can we keep our baring straight?
Or will we be blown off course?
Are we instruments of fate?
Do we really have a choice?
We threw our hearts into the sea
Forgot all of our memories
Untied the knot and raised the sail
We threw our hearts into the sea
Forgot all of our memories
The wind was sweet and smelled of home
The sea was rough and felt unknown
Escaping shores of lunacy
Dawn light, twilight, infinity

Those horns when they come in…..shivers
Can we keep our *bearing* straight is the proper sailing term.
Something Nick Cave-ish about this.

This is a beautiful song! I love the production, the oddball piano and horn section. The vocals are perfect for a song from a weary sailor.
It reminds me somewhat of something Procol Harum might have done and has a similar vibe to a "Salty Dog" IMHO.....
Thank you Radio Paradise for turning us on to gems like these that I wouldn't have heard otherwise!

Is it just me or does this sound like it could have been a 4AD release circa 1984?
Sounds like he's had about 11 bottles of NyQuil bedtime formula

I listened to the whole album on repeat going through a really interesting phase in my life, breaking off a long relationship and growing into my independence.
The whole album is like a soundtrack to the epic movie of our own lives, and the Boat Song is like a melancholic intermezzo. Always loved it, and I also encourage anyone to watch the videoclip for Iron. On a big screen. With good sound system.

Listening to the words of this song, I can't help but think of the Norwegian cruise ship Viking Sky in heavy seas and with no engines on 23 March 2019.

Between Philip Glass and John cale, greatness and melancolia. I love this guy.
Morning BillG and RP listeners!
This Woodkid is pretty talented dude, video director and singer/songwriter.
I wonder how much he enjoyed working with Katy Perry, I've heard she's actually a good singer who appreciates the past of the music world.

the opening notes reminded me of Beatle's Golden Slumbers
Woodkid = Pinocchio
Ask Geppetto!!

The spikey projections are similar, but so what? Art is derivative. Get used to it.

What say we all lighten up?
At a glance, it seems we may need to do just that.
In the lyrics, that would be "bearing"

One song is okay. Whole Album is to boring for me!

Yeesh. There is a similarity in the covers. As I mentioned before, it was just an "at a glance thing", no big deal. For the record, someone else mentioned it in a different thread. I'm not saying one artist copied the other, by any means. Not saying anything about the music. Can't believe this has actually sparked a "debate". But I do appreciate your civilized tone. : )
(the cover in question . . . )
Sorry, gonna have to go with Bosami on this one. We get it. Humans are wired to find patterns (even where none exist at times) and categorize the crap out of everything. It gets tedious. Not to pick on you specifically On_The_Beach, sorry. So many comments of "this sounds like that", "this looks like that". Most of the time, in my admittedly subjective opinion, the similarities cited are minimal and not worth the reader's time to read or process. I pity RP the cost of maintaining the server memory space required.

Creepiest album cover I've seen in quite a while...

Dude, that's not even remotely close. At a glance perhaps, but that would be like equating something just because they were both black and white color themes.

sounds very much like madrugada, lovely!
Absolutely wonderful music, I love this whole album/EP.
They're both from the same continent but Woodkid is from France and Sivert from Norway.

I like a well wrought lyric matched with some decent music. 8
This band is kind of intriguing, I'd guess it is the sort of thing that would sound right at the right moment.
...woodkid, really?..well that's cool, i guess...
