When I reach the river towns
Dustlands call
Telling me to turn around
Before I've lost it all
What's been promised true and grand
Is out there in the sand
Dustlands call
You don't have to search for it
And it don't give a shit
And when I'm back home with you
Dustlands gone
I put on a stranger's smile
But it feels dead wrong
And if you ask me who I am
I'll tell you where I've been
Dustlands gone
A land not down on any map
Such places never last
Dustlands gone
Unto this land a law was laid
And dustlands burned
High and low the bourgeoisie came
Their greed absurd
There are so many types of thirst
Some that warn and some that curse
Dustlands burn
And though I was forced to flee
It's true I once ran free
Dustlands call
Dustlands call
Telling me to turn around
Before I've lost it all
What's been promised true and grand
Is out there in the sand
Dustlands call
You don't have to search for it
And it don't give a shit

There is a greater frequency of creepy music on Halloween, but that seems to be about it.

So, that'll be anti-bourgeoisie, not anti-human, the bourgeoisie being only one small class of humanity.
To think that greed is limited to the bourgeoisie strikes me as being somewhat naive. But I don't think recognizing that is being anti-human, either.

Tedious and self-important. Gave it a 3.

Agree. Very obscure lyrics.
Not sure where to put this.. but the lyrics have an extra line "Rob from always on the run is so bad and copy paste is a sin" that are not in the song.

Just need to say that this playlist mix is awesome - again - in combination with Toubab Krewe - Carnivalito, it's the perfect mix. Bravo Bill.

The trumpet at the end...is this all just a house of cards?

Too bad your fourth line didn't rhyme with the third one. Maybe something like "with dust-returning wishes". Just an idea.

Anti-human screed, that bit about greed. Must be unambitious, desirous of returning to dust.

Fantastic band, great album, brings back many memories of their early to mid-nineties live shows in the Seattle area.
Sounds quite novel and is certainly an interesting tune. My brain wants to put Waterworld in for Dustlands . Fantastic band, great album, brings back many memories of their early to mid-nineties live shows in the Seattle area.

This group is a new find for me; I like them a lot, and unlike many groups, their latest stuff keeps improving. Nice variety in their music.

I just noticed (and used) the nifty "Lyrics:" option and I'm so glad it's there! For sure I would not have figured out what he was saying without that assistance.
Oh, and the song is quite likeable.

This is soooooo similar to Crystal Frontier by Calexico.
Reminds me of Pucifer.

This sounds like Johnny Bravo on lead vocals.
I've liked quite a few of their songs when I've heard em.

How about now? Full of the flotsam and jetsam of unearthing long buried kings, Olympic trinkets, or photos of royal tatas?

No dustlands near the river Thames today. More like mudlands.

"Walkabout"
reminiscent of Calexico without the SW vibe
Like that trumpet. Was that there all through the song?
I like the orchestral part of it although the "megaphone" effect comrades have described is cool. Oh my, he just said "bourgeois"
Dustlands near the River Thames? 'Kinell! News to me. Still, the SE of England is getting increasingly parched and now has roughly the same rainfall pattern as Israel, so the TV forecasters tell us, so maybe dustlands will come as the rains go.
Nice song, sort of reminds me a bit of VAST but without the mega-duper-massive-big sound. 7 from the Nottingham jury.

I'm going to rate the entire song a 7 and be done withit.
This is kinda cool. I'm hearing a little Mark Lanegan in the vocals, and that is a good thing. Well written music, just complex enough to be interesting too.
The Walkabous are in general a great band. More from their past LPs should be played on RP.
I like this on first listen - that gritty voice... Reminds me of David and David with a little Ry Cooder tossed in. Good song!
...this works; they have my attention...
Moby-esque. . . I like it. . .
At first look : Travels in Duetschland
Interesting.
Tedious and self-important. Gave it a 3.
There's more than a few comments on RP that are the same...
