It's unfortunate that when we feel a storm
We can roll ourselves over 'cause we're uncomfortable
Oh, well, the devil makes us sin
But we like it when we're spinning in his grip

Love is like a sin, my love
For the ones that feel it the most
Look at her with her eyes like a flame
She will love you like a fly and never love you again

It's unfortunate that when we feel a storm
Can roll ourselves over when we're uncomfortable
Oh, well, the devil makes us sin
But we like it when we're spinning in his grip

Love is like a sin, my love
For the one that feels it the most
Look at her with a smile like a flame
She will love you like a fly and never love you again

The best.
Haven't heard this one a lot on RP, but love it!
Gui Boratto's remix is also worth checking out

They are masters of fantastic beats. The way MA crafts rhythm is an art in itself.

yes! i was thinking of this song a week or so ago and haven't heard it in years and voila! here it is on RP. :)

7->8 we like it when we're spinning!
Hope Sandoval on vocals?
No wonder I like it!
One of my favorite songs.  I didn't discover it until I heard it as the opening song for the British TV show, Luther, which was a frigging great, if incredibly dark, show.  It was perfect for the show, and it works for me, too.
Hey .... nice clapping
Massive Attack at their best. Even if the drum line is from See-Line Woman, Nina Simone's track is one of her greatest IMO.

Well, the drums are from an old Nina Simone song. (I love this site: https://www.whosampled.com/Massive-Attack/Paradise-Circus/)

Yea- wake me when this is over. Enough "breathy" female vocals for the whole day here. That cr*p only goes so far...
Not just this song, but you guys are killing it right now.  Love the mix - all new stuff to me and really REALLY like!

FIrst time hearing the whole song (i.e., not at the beginning of Luther).
One of my alltime favorite songs.
I find myself putting this one on repeat when i play that album :)
Love it!
{#Notworthy}

Exactly what i needed to hear !

Thank you

Love the way this song builds
There is not one bad track on this album.
Like to groove
I know I'm in the minority here, but i find this song monotonous and boring
Blimey!
Quite original composition. Love this track. Another Massiv Attack's unbelivable creativity.

I love this album. I finally got it and it's oh so sweet. Highly recommended.
GREAT segue from the Finn Brothers "Suffer Never".   Something I was not aware could work so well up to now {#Music}
More of this yes please.

I gave this an 8, but then as the base line made its entrance I got a shiver down my spine.
Now its a 9.
Love this song... and I love Luther!
I just love this song, so seductive and rich in its melody..
discounting the video...i really find this song incredibly mesmerizing and extremely hot for some reason. the album cover creeps me out totally, though.
Oh yeah. Mmmmm

same.
I've been re-watching Seasons 3 & 4 of True Blood, gearing up for the premiere of Season 5 — and forgot this song was used to great effect in episode 4 titled "9 Crimes" (when Bill goes to a strip club to procure "dinner" for Russell and Lorena).

Wow, I was just going to say that this song is the theme from the BBC show Luther which is great, and there it is in the last comment.

Yes, it is! I just started watching Luther on Netflix this weekend and ended up watching 5 episodes, including 3 back-to-back just before I went to bed last night. Great show, great song.

Fred, I can relate to what you mention about the Catholic upbringing and the culture of guilt involved with it, but the human construct of Sin, and the means of guilt related to it, long predate Christianity.  Ask some Jewish, stand-up comedians about the culture of guilt.  Good song by the way.

Love it. But that is one of the creepiest cover photos in the history of rock and roll.
Geeze, I love the vibe in this track.  Gotta go 8 -> 9
Oh my. . . one word. . . lush.

That is all.
This song is so quirky and weird. It reminds me of a scene from "Alien From L.A." (yeah, that dismal Kathy Ireland sci-fi travesty - but it was so bad it was funny, and I love it) where her character and that of her "rescuer" are sitting in what passes for a restaurant. There are dancers performing, and the dance is so weird and choppy, and I can almost picture them dancing to this music.

No, I'm not nuts.  Well, okay, maybe a little.  I loved the Leonard Cohen "Everybody Knows" reference to "Pump Up the Volume." I CAN mix my media. Trouble is, usually when I do it, people think I'm nuts. (What do the movies "Crocodile Dundee II," "Pretty Woman," and "Adventures in Babysitting" have in common?) And no fair Googling.

Have fun, folks! {#Mrgreen}

Curious, since the Catholic presence in South America (and maybe Yorkshire) didn't seem to slow down the birth rate any. Sorry, I get your point but couldn't resist the MP reference opportunity.

Hahaha, same here, only that by now I have learned the pattern of claps here, and I still get the "Walk of Life" wooh-oohs wrong {#Mrgreen}

And here i am a VERY happy man for being a non-believer... Imagine that...

We're just organisms founded by nature and we're doing what we are designed for, surviving and breeding. It just so happens were intelligent enough to let ourselves believe there is "something" or "someone" above.... But not for me, when i die, i believe, it stops.... No heaven, no hell, just the end of an organism, the way nature works, the same as a fly or the same as a fish, it stops there....

But hey, that's just my perspective on things...
As for this song, it has a certain atmosphere and it always gets my full attention...

How is this trend of "bands" that are actually songwriters with a revolving cast of awesome singing talent?  A few years ago I was noticing how it seemed to be trending up, but how's it been lately?  Any new examples?  The classic that got me noticing it was Zero 7, but it applied to quite a few bands at the time.  I ask because it seems like a really good way to find solidly good music.

The Chrystal Method and The Chemical Brothers both do this with success.

I can't make my mind up about Massive Attack. I have a few of their albums; usually bought on the strength of one track I've heard and liked, only to find that the rest of the album doesn't have the same appeal. I like this though.
 laozilover wrote:
Here's what the reviewer Angry Mofo said about this track on AMAZON:

"Massive Attack albums are rarely immediate. Same with Heligoland: at first, the synths at the beginning of "Splitting The Atom" and "Flat Of The Blade" sound off-key and simplistic. I heard the three-note lead in "Paradise Circus" and wondered how on earth that simple sound could sustain a five-minute song.

But when I listened to "Paradise Circus" a few times, my perception started to change. The clattering, echoing drum track combined with the lead to create an eerie atmosphere. Above all, the song has possibly the most intimate vocal performance of any Massive Attack song. Hope Sandoval's voice is scratchy, but the way you can hear every minute shift in her throat, together with the deliberately slow pace of the vocal, gives an impression of a wide-awake, intensely focused late-night rumination. It's a remarkably sexy song, but it also expresses uncomfortable qualms: the lyrics say that "the devil makes us sin," and that's exactly how the song sounds, like someone giving in to temptation, but feeling uneasy about possible divine repercussions.

"

Its' amazing, ceaselessly amazing to me, what people are capable of convincing themselves of.
Emperors New Clothes.
It is a "nice" song, but I miss the edge that they brought to some of their earlier work.
What a really nice album.

This song has a bit of "new" Zero 7 feel to it.  That can't be bad either.
 shawshank wrote:

Iron & Wine's "Boy With a Coin" is probably mostly handclaps for the rhythm.
