What I'm really wanting, a brand new machine
One for converting plastic to dreams
If you ride upon the tiger you can never get off
They get hungry

One thing is certain, all the rest are lies
Beautiful and dammed ones never realize
That the dark is light enough to see the ignorance of greed
Still she cries

Come on come on get up I wanna take you
Away from all of this and what has got you
Lost and feeling down
You just get it off your back, let it fly away

Poetry of motion counting out the beats
To hear a voice in every mind sounding out retreat
And as they run they look behind to see what tempts the wandering eye
Still she cries

Come on come on get up I wanna take you
Away from all of this and what has got you
Lost and feeling down
You just get it off your back, let it fly away

Trouble with the life of the Emperor's new mind
Casual viewin' in spite of what gets left behind
Gentlemen you may include me out, ladies please accept my bow

Come on come on get up I wanna take you
Away from all of this and what has got you
Lost and feeling down
You just get it off your back, let it fly away

Whoah...for a minute, from the other room I thought maybe this was a Stereophonics' number; ("Maybe Tomorrow"-era?) I hadn't heard.... and that's a COOL thing; maybe gonna have to put that one on!
Great band. Great songs.
It's always time for a little 54-40!
Bill, there are much better 54-40 songs,

You would be losing that suit for a few reasons.  A three-chord piano adornment does not constitute plagiarism - the chords and melody of this song are completely different than those of "Come See About Me", and Diana Ross did not write the song.
Ah yes, The Smilin' Buddha... those were the days.
Luv Affair, The Gandy and The Spartan Men's Club rounded out an amazing music/dance scene for fans of music... Punk and New Wave saved me from Disco! Nice to hear 54-40 on RP. Thank you.
38 yrs. and still going strong.  (the band, not me)

(and for a US/Britain history lesson, Google "54-40 or fight")

Kind of sad that 54-40 best songs never caught on in the US - Baby ran was really an anthem for most Canadian teens in the early 80's - It wasnt until Hootie and the Blowfish did a cover of "I Go Blind" that I ever heard any of their music on American stations

Now Bill pulls this one out of the vault - good choice - but Baby Ran is much better
Thanks Bill :)

+1 for Baby Ran

Excellent rocking set ! The last 3 songs are perfectly following one another and I hadn't listen to rock like that in a while, it's close to perfection !
Moby?
You obviously haven't heard of the Canadian band "The Headstones":

I don't know why I bother making new playlists, Bill seems to read my mind.
Me in honey

Catchy little tune. They remind me of Dramarama.

...thank god...there´s a PSD..........
How much did they pay this session keyboard player?
These guys are great and well worth a nine....have loved them since I first heard them...and they're from my home town!

If you were Diana Ross and the Supremes you'd have a lot more serious issues to deal with than this! Lol!
It's all too much.
If I was Diana Ross and the Supremes I'd be suing right around now.

i'm giving this song a 9 - and gawd dang.  that's what listening to music is all about.
what fun.  vancouver - we'll just reside in your shadow here in seattle

I'm folding clothes. Bro is gone and won't be back until tomorrow, if everything goes well. So, I'm listening loud, and this song just makes me grin. Maybe I'll check into the lyrics, but for now, I love the way they make me feel, and I'm good with that.
Vancouver's hometown heroes
Great to hear 54-40 on RP!
Catching my ear. I like percussion that is not drum-driven, but rather bass- and keyboard-driven.  And the occasional flute is a nice touch as well.

First time hearing this song or this band.  Liking them a lot so far - very infectious and grin-inspiring.   {#Dancingbanana}
Casual Viewing inspires intense listening from me. {#Music}
oh, oh, methinks they stole Appliance's Pacifica groove, only they dumbed it way down and stripped it of what was rad

well done trekhead - TOUCHE

Saw them live last fall. The great thing about them is that their sound is easily reproduced live, so they sounded fabulous. Attendance was down sadly, but that didn't inhibit the rest of us from enjoying a really good show.

Is that a resurgence of INXS ?
See the comment below on Smash Mouth. I don't hear any resemblance whatsoever between 54-40 and those bands...
Moby was in a band?

Yes, Bill, that's another completely new tune for me... it rocks very fine... great rythms and beats again! Rated 9.
New Ordery, but even more (70s) retro. Very kewl. 8 from me.
Great choice.
Sounds good on a first listen. Is that a good or a bad sign?
I was wondering when I would here this band on RP... Yeah! It's been such a long time.
Wow! Love this band! But um....the bass line and beat sound an awful like the beginning of U2's Zoo Station. Which is good!

I have the CDs at home - I'll try uploading BABY RAN and another tune or two (Miss You? Blame Your Parents? Since When?) ASAP. TJ

Great Canadian band!! Love them live.

The 54-40 release, "54-40" totally defined them. This cut is of much less value. But thanks Bill, for giving these guys a listen.
Reminds me somewhat of Joy Division / New Order
Great band that has stood the test of time... more than you can say for most bands.
Gentlemen, you may include me out... Ladies, please accept my bow... Love 54•40 -- Great live band.
Feels like travelin' music.
