In your heart, you'll hear it call you
Come away, come away
Bali Ha'i will whisper on the wind of the sea
Here am I your special island
Come to me, come to me
Your own special hopes, your own special dreams
Bloom on the hillside and shine in the streams
If you try, you'll find me
Where the sky meets the sea
Here am I your special island
Come to me, come to me
Bali Ha'i, Bali Ha'i, Bali Ha'i
Someday you'll see me floating in the sunshine
My head sticking out from a low-lying cloud
You hear me call you, singing through the sunshine
Sweet and clear as can be
Come to me, here I am, come to me
Bali Ha'i, Bali Ha'i
I will always have a mental picture of my late father standing over the living room cabinet stereo listening to almost all of South Pacific. Before the age of 20 (!!), he was already a WWII Pacific Navy combat vet. He seemed eager to talk about the beautiful post-war Philippines and gals (with a smile)--but he would seldom or never talk more than 2 minutes about the horrors of the fleet at Saipan or his destroyer getting hit by a kamikaze six months later in Dec. '44.
He did cry on hearing this song and other tracks in South Pacific.
We must be the same age - I have exactly the same memories, including the kamikaze, except dad was on a minesweeper. South Pacific was an almost spiritual favorite among his friends. Vietnam never generated such a consensus.
It wasn't intended made to be releaed as a song for radio stations to play.
Some just do not get it! They have to vent their negative feelings despite the nature of this station, the PSD button and the option to choose favorites, main or mellow mix.

The depth of your culture is what is average.
Was Jimmy Page into show tunes as well as teenagers?
It seems to be a pretty clear homage by Mr. Page, though many Zeppelin fans may not know this song.
Doh! It's the tropical islands set!
Peggy Lee - Bali Ha'i
Matson Belle - Float
Israel Kamakawiwo'ole - Ka Huila Wai
