Girl with a thick skin made you shine like a new pin
Why smother urges, which belong under dresses?
Do you wish that you could only start again
Learn to live and be pedestrian?
If all your wishes in the world come true
You'd be as good as new
What can I say that will make them jump to my defence?
I value honesty, I could never pretend
Crest fallen boys are boring
I don't know which way I'm going anymore
I can't be sure
Girl with a thick skin made you shine
Why smother urges, which belong under dresses?
Do you wish that you could only start again
Learn to live and be pedestrian?
If all your wishes in the world come true
You'd be as good as new
What can I say that will make them jump to my defence?

Perfect pop music.
I like how the voices come in over the organ figure.
This bands album art is sublime!
LOVE that organ, Baby.
Like that guitar sound , would bet money it is a turquoise or lime green.

People said the start was like Take the Skinheads bowling so I bought a copy. Now every time it comes on I also think its Camper Van. Both are Mega brilliant!
I thought this was going to be CVB's "Take The Skinheads Bowling"
I'm getting a Belle and Sebastian vibe.
this is awesome!

Yes, that's from "Belle du Jour". I think the guy is Pierre Clementi.

I love the organ. Her haircut? Not so much. The couple in the poster don't seem to care for it much either.

A song's key and tempo are not protected by copyright laws. It's a basic I - IV progression (C to F in this case), essentially a progression that a person would learn no later than their second guitar lesson (I assume you are not a musician). There are thousands of songs with that progression and likely hundreds played at that tempo. This does have a G (V chord) in the instrumental bridge however. Of course, they may also have been inspired by the CVB tune...who knows?

And check out that lamp and her shirt Another nutty album cover from these guys. The song itself is not bad....not fantastic mind you but it's all right. I think breezy is a good description.
The lamp is a Paul Hughes and the table by Andre Bus. I'd take them both, please.
You can have the haircut, however.

Second violin warps into
Crest fallen presence.
Resurrected by the skin
Of his teeth and by her smile.
Now Gods had a sense of humor
And it's only way to be.

Thanks for playing this today, sad news from their camp this week.
i'm in a good mood tonight...everything is getting at least an 8. and this song deserves it.

My one Camera Obscura song I couldn't live without would probably be Razzle Dazzle Rose

Camera Obscura - Shine Like A New Pin
RJD2 - Ghostwriter
Tori Amos - Spark
Shawn Colvin - Wichita Skyline
Wow. There are times when Radio Paradise gets it exactly right and plays a set of tunes that seems to somehow fill a musical void and makes the world seem like a better place.
Unfortunately, this set isn't one of them.
I'm about to slip into a coma if I don't hear something with a bass and drumbeat soon.
...dig...
I've never heard "Take the Skinheads Bowling". I feel excluded!!!

Good. I wasn't the only one. I totally thought it was Camper.
I like the deceptive simplicity and the warm tone of the vocalist.

When I first heard the melody I thought this was "Take the Skin Heads Bowling". Might have been better if it was. Well it has a pleasent enough sound at least.
That's what I thought it was too.

That happens to me every time. It is kind of a let down, but I still like this.
This song seems to bring out a lot of comments about how this song sounds like another song. So if the shoe fits - to me her voice sounds like the lead singer's voice in The Innocence Mission.

This is dreadful...eesh

I like it. I don't know why.

Yep- bummer :-(
This isn't bad in a cutesy, non-threatening way...
Still was in the mood for Camper v.B.
If you need your fix for Camper, here it is on Youtube:

If that rhytmn guitar was another 1/64th out of tune I'd scream. .
Band on the run....

ephemeral, whispy, thin, lightweight....come back in a few years when you have something to say in a more mature voice

Dang, I was going to post about how we were singing this in the car on the way to my grandmother's house on Thanksgiving, but we weren't singing Camera Obscura, that's for sure!
does anyone else hear "band on the run"??

Never heard of this band before but thanks RP for playing it. This is on my list now of CD's to buy
I enjoyed this song a lot. It's different. Thanks for continuing to expand my horizons, RP.

I'm with you Platypus man. Let me add some love for perennial RP also-rans The Walkmen. Not one song accepted into the playlist for a fav of mine.
Too bad they couldn't be a bit MORE obscura...
