Yeah, I was glad to hear the end of this. It was fun for a while, but it doesn't really improve on Donna. The heavy drumming gets in the way of the pulsing beat and vocals.

Ditto.

Is it me, or does this sound like a Muse cover of Donna Summer?
I love this song. It's one of the best tunes to work out to.
OMFrigginG!! Blue Man Group? Radio Paradise turns into a comic parody of itself in 3-2-1-. I was so surprised to see an actual album cover! And all this time I thought BMG were just there to promote t-shirt and confetti guns... I switched over to G-town radio immediately and got William DeVaughn's beautiful Be Thankful For What You Got. There are MUCH better listening alternatives, but none this hilarious.

And I liked the BMG exactly for their antics and didn't particularly care for this song. This rendition works wonderfully for me.
Diversity and acceptance are keystones to a just society. 😌

Try not to boogie. Or better yet, let loose. Great structure to this...

kinda throws you off at first but still a damn good cover of a great piece of music. Balls to spare too.
{#Dancingbanana} Leaving the creepy mute smurfs and their antics aside, the PVC pipe percussion is spot on for this cover.
Besides that, Venus Hum delivers a refreshing take on an old classic.

Dang but the singer can seriously bring it.

I'm thinking that I must have been missing something about the tune in the 70's.

A worthy cover. Remember the first time I heard it making me revisit some of the funk, soul and disco I spurned back in the 70's when all I would listen to was Genesis, King Crimson and Pink Floyd. Some things are just more fun than serious.
This just turned my whole mood compleatly around, in a  good way. The thought of what was being said in the comments section was too glorious... had to look.

Man do I hate these pretentious Smurf Mimes!!! No more please!!!

Isn't that Tobias Bluth singing?
Yes. And it's very FÃŒnke.
Dreck - make it go away please.
I felt love for this song for the first couple of minutes and then started to degenerate into hate for the super duper repetition.
i thought disco was dead?
utter twaddle!

Not sure if you mean drum machines, but trust me...no drum machines used.
Prolly referring to MIDI-controlled synth track at the beginning. It does lack that organic feel, but has its own merits IMO.
Oh, Lord, that's bad. EDIT: And yet, I see, I've rated it a seven. Hmmmm.

Ok interpretation but Donna got the Funk On better.

me likey
It's got rhythm, got to groove on them drums!!!!
Quite like BMG & the original is ok for a retro fix only if & when absolutely necessary. There is no reason for this version. Mute, Fast Forward- anything- just make it stop...
I effin' LOVE this song. And I don't care what any of the rest of y'all think!!! I love it so much I'll even use a banana smiley!
I'd like to hear the original. Or a really good remix. The BMG drum sound isn't working in this.

Why not fun? Some stuff is serious, some is just fun! Nothing wrong with that. And, this is FUN!

fun, but hard to top the donna summer version-that was the blonde on blonde of disco.
Abso-freakin' - lutely!
i know BMG get pilloried but, hell, I am sucker for this kind of drumming.
This is an "ok" cover of the song -- but Donna Summer's orgasmic version is sooooo much better.
'cause sometimes you just need to dance. its cool.
I wanted so bad to hate it at first, but ultimately it's a cool cover. Besides, I'm a sucker for the drum stuff BMG does. A hi-tech Kodo.
nice interpretation
Wake up people - this sucks bigtime!!!
Great music...but why this song? I just can't shake the memory of the original version of this song.
The background vocals sound like Ashley Simpson at last years Rose Bowl. And that's not a good thing.

Same here...
Interesting...
Dangit I turned that up real loud and there's sound effects under there. People talking, noises and stuff. I just answered the phone... no one there.
this is a great take on this track. i'm impressed. :)

Uh-oh the disco alert just went off. Seriously, does Blue Man Group merit all the attention it gets on RP?
YES! Their awesome live! Fun Concert!!!!! It would be nice to have some Live BMG on here Bill, if you can get it.
Typical Music Video--Take One . Ooops, wrong site! Lots of fun!
holy smoke.
I'm a huge fan of Blue Man Group and their music. This track is just plain fun (and so damn catchy!). Makes listening to disco, well listenable. Of course, this is far from the best thing Blue Man Group has to offer... in fact it's hardly representative of ANY of their stuff. But it's fun anyway!
Hard to resist, though I did try.

This is...quite likeable... Great Video though!

why?
Yahoo!! The video link below is well worth it too

LOL
Funny, I didn't care much for the original disco version, and I like this version just as much!
I remember hearing Donna Summer do this on the AM radio station when I was a kid. I was enthralled. My dad turned it off. Then the station decieded to ban the song... Something about Miss Summer's passionate singing... Only hearing it as an adult made me understand. Wow!
What the helllll?!?!
This rocks.

well, this is a nice cover of the Bronski Beat version but I'd prefer the BB to this one.

PS: Didn't I read there are "touring companies" of BMG? The group you see may not be the three original stage show guys that thought it up?
From what I understand, the original guys are the group that perform in Vegas. Then there is a company that tours nationwide. And a third that tours just between three states in the New England area. That is what I last heard about them anyway...there might be more now.

Has anyone listened to the rest of this disc? I'm really starting to enjoy VH, and this is really fun and full of energy.
I own the CD and its *amazing*. Almost all of their songs have this much energy if not more. I high recommend it!

I think that's him on background vocals - VERY deep background.

I feel so guity for loving this song....and I don't know why, really......
No way this should work. Yet it does. PS: Didn't I read there are "touring companies" of BMG? The group you see may not be the three original stage show guys that thought it up?
it's kinda growing on me...

The live BMG show is certainly unique.
>>> ! WONDERFUL ENERGY ! <<<
Off the scale fantastic ingenious, ultimately creative. I feel like flying down the autoban when I hear this song!
I cant say much about Blue Man Group cause I havnt really heard much of there music but, this venus hum stuff is awfull. All her voice does is give me a headache. #-o
Giving Blue Man Group the designation of "artist" in the musical sense is generous.

I know I feel love when I make venus hum. And it's really not that complex. Suddenly (56k) streams of toilet paper are falling from my ceiling tiles.

No, it's Annette Strean of Venus Hum

Funny, the first time I saw them on Leno (about 10 years ago?), I LOVED them, but couldn't find out much about them. Now, I've seen their "Complex" Tour, and they are PHENOMENAL live! Venus Hum is the GROUP, not the singer....

Too bad we can't see the video attached to this version, as it would actually make it worth the listen!
This doesn't hold a candle to Ms. Donna Summer but it is kind of a fun version of the song.
techno disco
Why not be the first? Because I only clicked in here to see if anybody'd mentioned who did the original! I do kinda like this version, though. . . .
