Love the unexpected fusion of celtic and middle eastern influences.

So much memories in 1998 when this came out !
That was fun.
couldn't keep still... that's everything..

This made me laugh out loud. It's my observation most songs in a language other than English attract low ratings.
But I can easily imagine David Gilmour and this band playing together, now that you mention it.

sad indeed, I wonder if some have not forgiven the Siip Siie day of reckoning which is also done by this band?
I find it disheartening such a wonderful track is not apricated by the RP community....

What does it say when I hear something like this, and go to Spotify to hear more, but it's not there? How obscure can you get? S'a'shame, I'm truly digging it.

Beautiful: True fusion, world music. Masterly, delightful. A joy! A little jewel.

There are cohort of raters who rate 789 .True this beautiful song seems to attract an unfortunate quantity of low rates. Anyone who appreciates song should adjust rating. RP still plays the song , particularly on eclectic mix, so the song will quite jusfyably survive some low raters. Many songs have the same profile issue.Enjoy

Interesting and enjoyable :)
After hearing this on RP, I bought 2 of their CD's. It's weird and wonderful!
techno, middle eastern, trad - yes please! a subtle earworm

Beautifully summed up. This is just sooooooooo RP. You've gotta love that eclecticism. 8 from the entranced Nottingham jury.
Sadly, going by Wikipedia, it looks like Ekova are no more. There are a couple of videos on YouTube, including a live performance of Starlight in Daden. The lead singer is so exotic she makes my nipples hard (as Lazarus would say).
A french-based trio, headed by American-born Dierdre Dubois, who originated the name, Ekova. "Its roots are in echo, and ova, signifying the feminine side," she explains. "But it's not supposed to have a literal meaning, just a beautiful sound. I wanted a word I'd never heard before." Much of her lyricism shares the linguistic experimentalism/artistry of their name, with utterances floating in between celtic, english, and arabic at time. Equal parts techno and acoustic-ethnic, their atmospheric and eerie with a strong middle-eastern influence.

Kind Coyote, can you tell me in what language she is singing please:
What language is she singing?
Wiki indicates she is French,
but also references Persian influences.
Okey-dokey. I'd like to hear this again. Right now, it's a 6. I can "hear" this one on my Touch. Not yet, though.
RP . . . does it again.
WOW! Me likey
Wow... Good times.
She has a really pretty singing voice.
Nice
I find myself stuttering while listening to this song. ugh.
Moving... joyously!

Yeah, these guys are definitely in another world. Where's my gypsy skirt??
I DO LOVE THIS!!!
THANKS, RP!!!
Ya know, even when I don't understand the words, I can feel that they have some meaning. With Ekova, who sing in gibberish (I'm assuming that's true for all their songs -- is it?), I know it doesn't mean anything, and it bugs me. Sounds good, and I do like that Siip Sie song, but it bothers me.
what a gift that singer has! she transitions from her lowest to highest range seemingly without effort, and it's quite a range. just beautiful.

... how about The Be Good Iraqi Cabdrivers?
Although: Of Note: ... " What's in a name? In the case of Ekova, quite a lot. This French-based trio - which doesn't contain a single Frenchman, by the way - draws its name from a word coined by American-born singer Dierdre Dubois. "Its roots are in echo, and ova, signifying the feminine side," she explains. "But it's not supposed to have a literal meaning, just a beautiful sound. I wanted a word I'd never heard before." In that sense, the name Ekova perfectly represents what the band does... The other two members of Ekova, Iranian percussionist Arach Khalatbari and Algerian guitar/lute player Mehdi Haddab, ... The album shows various styles/rhythms... similar instrumentation and vocals though... One of the better songs. Also a bit similar to some Dead Can Dance...
very good tune, is the rest of the CD as good??
whan an awesome tune!!! I LOVE IT
This isn't the version of this song that I'm most familiar with, but it's nice nonetheless.
Well, better than yer average worldbeat. Youssou D'Nour's long-lost Celtic-Gypsy twin?
Love the unexpected fusion of celtic and middle eastern influences.
Me too!
