Down, down, you bring me down
I hear you knocking down my door
And I can't sleep at night.
Your face it has no place
No room for you inside my house
I need to be alone.
Don't waste your words I don't need anything from you,
I don't care where you've been or what you plan to do.
Turn, turn, I wish you'd learn
There's a time and place for everything
I've got to get it through.
Cut loose 'cause you're no use
I couldn't stand another
Second in your company.
Don't waste your words I don't need anything from you,
I don't care where you've been or what you plan to do.
Stone me why can't you see
You're a no one nowhere washed up baby
Who'd look better dead.
Your tongue is far too long
I don't like the way it sucks and
Slurs upon my every word.
Don't waste your words I don't need anything from you,
I don't care where you've been or what you plan to do.
I am the resurrection and I am the life,
I couldn't ever bring myself to hate you as I'd like.

Reminds me of Syd Barret…
very cool tune

Great to hear RP playing that Manchester sound.
Most excellent band and so much of the soundtrack to my youth.

Nah, they split the next weekend. But the reception was epic.

Agree. Just knowing there is more to the song forced me to drop it from a 10 to a 9. I overplayed this so much during parties that people always tell me it always reminds them of me! I’ll take that.

still zesty
C'mon sing it! "I am the resurrection and I am the life,"
Good tune!
Will someone please answer the phone!
Eh, where’s the ending!? Radio edits aren’t usually an RP thing, that’s why we listen...
my millyunth listen...never gets old!
One of the many great qualities of Radio Paradise is that they play the full length versions of songs - however, you're missing a trick guys as you've cut off the end of the jam.
It's particularly memorable as when everyone was on the floor of our studio union bar dancing to it, we'd always point fingers and laugh at the guys who mistimed the restart after the false ending and 'went early'. You've robbed me of those memories!

I went to a wedding in London last year. Groom was mid-40s marrying for the first time. Originally from Manchester, there were a bunch of middle-aged former Mancunians at the party. There was a lovely atmosphere. People were drinking and dancing. Then this came on.
The whole room went fucking nuts. I had an out of body experience. We bounced right through the roof and off into the night.
I'm just going to go ahead and give this a 10.

Still so bloody good after all these years!
One of my favourites from the 90s. Simply godlike.

Banging tune once it gets going. Demonstrates their talent to me, unlike all their "hippy round a campfire" stuff.

It is similar and familiar-sounding, but it's hardly a "rip-off" of any one, specific song. That drumbeat intro (or similar) has been used in a lot of songs, ("Oh, Pretty Woman" - by Roy Orbison, "Uptight" - by Stevie Wonder, "Love Is Like An Aching In My Heart" - by The Supremes, "Mystery Achievement" by The Pretenders, etc...). It's a pretty standard (offset kick-drum) beat, which has been on drum machines for decades, and on "Drumdrops" records before then. In terms of chord structure and melody, this song has almost nothing in common with the Janis Joplin tune.
Rip-off, rip-off! Janis Joplin's "Move Over"! Listen to the beginning again, carefully. Blimey, never noticed it before until today.

I have to agree that it gets better when they stop singing, though I liked it quite a bit while they were singing, too!

A classic track from a classic album. The Stone Roses' fame was short lived, but I certainly remember when they were white hot.

Wow, I really like this!
One of the greatest debut albums ever, IMHO. Sux what happened to them...
The end of this song certainly makes up for the incredible droning of the beginning... I was wondering how this had made it onto RP.... Im working on the trust thing... trust RP.. trust RP...
Pure Manchester! This is a classic in every sense of the word.
Love this...the last couple of mins are stunning

Great song for a monday morning.

:)
When TSR stops singing, not that they are bad, and get down to performing their music, they throw down one of the best groove jams of any band on the planet. They do it with the second half of this tune and some of their others too.
Godlike YES! A truly great song! Awesome
Part II rocks. Part I..... leads to indifference.
On the other hand, it's not my record collection (love that term, 'records', damn I'm old!).
That's the other reason to love RP. I hear the gaps in my musical education. This is a good example. I should have been loving this stuff before now. But, better late than never. Thanks Bill!

That middle-end part where the heavy guitars kick in, and lead into the next song on the album, is monster; the two should be played together for a proper appreciation

Not sure about the comments pertaining to the 'structure of the piece'. I don't know though, I could almost imagine Mani and Wreni arguing about syncopation. Does a gifted bass player ever need to think about structure with the world's best drummer - or does it just gell?

Thank you for explaining the structure of the piece so succinctly. If this song had ended the first time, it would have been an odd curiosity. But the repetition, lack of development of the melodic/harmonic/rhythmic lines, along with the pompous title makes it overbearingly stupid, imo.
Good point ...

Dullest. Drummer. Ever.
Alan John Wren (born on 10 April 1964, in Manchester, England), better known as Reni, was the drummer of The Stone Roses from 1984 to 1995.
Reni is considered by many to be the best drummer of his generation, and the "single most important drummer in UK indie circles" (Rhythm, 2004), and according to former Hacienda General Manager Howard Jones he, ""played the drums like Hendrix played the guitar." His laid-back style of off-beat rhythms was influential in bringing about the blend of indie and dance music (ibid) that formed much of the Manchester (or Madchester) sound of the day.
at about the 3:20 mark this turns into one of the coolest groove jams of the early 90's: a bit of Zeppelin, a bit of the Who. Great guitar and bass. probably the only part of the "Manchester" scene that I really dug; the last half of the tune is a 10!
