If blood will flow when fresh and steel are one
Drying in the color of the evening sun
Tomorrow's rain will wash the stains away
But something in our minds will always stay
On and on the rain will fall
On and on the rain will fall
Perhaps this final act was meant to clinch a lifetime's argument
That nothing comes from violence and nothing ever could
For all those born beneath an angry star
Lest we forget how fragile we are
On and on the rain will fall like tears from a star
On and on the rain will see how fragile we are
If blood will flow when fresh and steel are one
Drying in the color of the evening sun
Tomorrow's rain will wash the stains away
But something in our minds will always stay
On and on the rain will fall like tears from a star
On and on the rain will see how fragile we are
How fragile we are, how fragile we are
How fragile we are, how fragile we are
Drying in the color of the evening sun
Tomorrow's rain will wash the stains away

Her version of "Love is blindness" is utterely superb.
Such an effective rendition of this song. Beautifu!
Wow. Really bad
Excellent! Great voice!
Great to hear Cassandra Wilson on RP! What an amazing voice.
RIP Cobe
Going against the crowd on this one. I like Stings version, but she makes this her own - a silky smooth rendition. I like it.

I think it's certainly conceivable that someone could do a decent cover of this song, but this isn't it for me.
Sounds like she's singing in her sleep.
Yawn.

Nope
I didn't know if this was on RP or if I was on hold.
Problem is the original is so good and memorable (and somewhat still recent) that it is hard to top off, even interpreted by a great singer like Cassandra Wilson.
Prefer stings take.

Agreed. Cassandra's effort is clearly prefered by some, but for my taste I much prefer Mr. Cooke's arrangement and execution.
Tuned to another song after a few seconds. Too damn boring.
hmm, I severely disliked the original version but this is bearable (apart from the corny lyrics, but that's not really her fault)

Geez. I am sooo tired of hearing this crappy version, I'm going to get off my duff right now and upload the cover by Jesse Cook and the sultry Holly Cole that just smokes. It beats the crap out of this cover so it should make it to the play list.
April 28: Still waiting to see if it gets accepted. It's getting 10/4 on LRC at this time.
May 6: Hey, it's out of LRC and accepted today! Damn, Rebecca must have one hell of a backlog.
I'd like to hear that version! Hear, hear!!
... uh... yeah.
Can't help but think of the September 11th connection I have to this song, as do others.
Therefore it's a bit hard to wrap your brain around this version. I don't really dislike it as the song stands on its own and I like her other songs ("I've Grown Accustom to His Face" = personal fav), but I'm not enjoying it either.
Meh.
p.s. Saw Sting do this live = actually very moving.
Man.. this was a good song when it came out. Great to see Sting perform it live, and slow dance with one of the backup singers... now it's been almost completely trampled by the crowd. Sad.
Well done. Enough soul here to fill in what's missing out of a thousand or so other covers.

I don't like the original, and this is even worse.
Ha! Just requested some Police... and this came up right away. Bill, are you really manning the controls 24 hours a day?
One of my all time favorite songs... unfortunately, though Sting must be honored, this just isn't cutting it. Far from the magic of the original.

Oh dear.
Well I would'nt impose my tastes on anyone, I have a difficult time adjusting to them myself but... this music has no soul, its like a house without people. A ticking clock has more geist. I suppose if I were alone on a desert island and it played over and over I would eventually at least hate it...

The strange thing about remakes on RP is that the honest attempts to interpret the songs with emotion seem to get slammed? If she changed the beats and added Leonard Nimoy or Johnny Cash or the Smirfs it would be rated higher. It is a GREAT song, and I love Sting's music/voice/etc, but this is better than a 5.5.
If many of the voters here saw her singing this while on vacation in the hotel lobby bar, they'd be telling their friends to go buy her album.
How about this: I just don't like the song. There, I said it. Let the lynching begin. :whip:
Have you ever heard her do Harvest Moon? (New Moon Daughter) Ye haters of Niel (misspelling intentional; you know who you are) Young would find even this wonderful.

Dead on comments, rgio. This is a solid 8 in my book, regardless of what the 1-ers say.

C'mon folks -- 5.5? Listen again! Try, if you will, to let go of your deep memory of the original and just listen with your heart...

Sorry, this cover hasn't got what it takes. Sting's original is magical and this is just a wannabe.
I agree, the original is so great, especially the live version off of All This Time...but I feel like the last 10 times I've heard this song on RP it's been this cover of it...unfortunately
Her voice reminds me a bit of how Joni Mitchell's sounds, nowadays. Even more so because it's in a laid-back Jazz style. Mm, come to think of it, there are quite a few similarities between these two artists.

I don't think Kermit the Frog could ruin this song, honestly.
I don't like this cover, which leaves nothing of the power of the original.
I like the original. This is trying to translate it to slow jazz or someting, but imho fails horribly in keeping it a real song

Another fabulous and original cover from the Lounge Queen herself. My personal favourite is Neil Young's "Harvest Moon" Wow..

Sting's original got so overplayed that I just can't listen to it anymore, which it's a shame since I liked this song so much. Hearing this version definetly saved the song for me. Nice cover.
I, too, prefer the original, but this version is lovely for a hot afternoon. Her voice is pleasingly reminiscent of Nina Simone, but without the edge. I don't think I've heard any of Nina here on RP...how about it?
wonderful cover of a beautiful song. i love it.

different strokes fer different folks i guess...
btw, unlike most people at radio paradise, i actually think that sting's new stuff is pretty damn right on.
It seems like every (once) successful artist goes through a period he/she can't do anything good in the eyes of (most of) the public.

This is just horrendous.
This is just awesome.
Like a breath of fresh air.
It's raining as I'm listening to this, and that "tears from a star" reference just strikes me as one of the greatest lines in music. Thank you, Sting. And I love her cover. The celestial forces that brought Cassandra Wilson and this song together knew what they were doing.

It's not Sting, but hey it would be hard to top his version of this song. I still like it, but it still feels like it is trying to hard to be 'jazzy'.
Lame, lame, lame! I might go off and kill myself now!
(Sorry, it's raining here today and I was hoping for some more upbeat tunes).
Sting's version off of his "All This Time" album was one of the best renditions I've ever heard...
I have to agree with pretty much everyone else's view on this. Great artist, so so performance and rendition, fantastic guitar work.
A decent take on the song, but you can't go wrong with such a beautifully written tune. Pales in comparison to the original, IMHO.

Sounds like Merced on a Friday night at the Eye-talian restaurant - lounge act with a drum box.
Of course, that may just be me.

I like her too, but this just doesn't do it for me. Sounds too labored. Not her best work. Her work on Belly of the Sun was much better
Never heard her voice before. Have heard her name...when I looked up to see who was singing this I was surprised. I thought it was a man in some parts. Then to see this name...hmmmm...not sure I like it though. Am very attached to the original...
I give it a 10 just for the guitar work.

Oooh. Nice. I never realized just how Brazilian this song was. I would love to hear her do an entire album of Brazilian jazz. Hey, maybe I should check Amazon...

What a diva! She always does a fascinating job with covers--Hank Sr., the Monkees, U2, Cyndi Lauper, and now Sting. I've grown so used to being delighted by her reworkings that I literally get really excited when I hear she's up to a new one. Like this classic. Didn't quite grab me by the scruff of the neck like she did with "Time after time" or "I'm so lonesome I could cry." But pretty darned soulful nonetheless.
Ironically, I just submitted "I'm So Lonesome..." to RP and it got rejected.... Still waiting to hear about "Waters of March" of the Belly of the Sun disc. Fingers crossed...

I've always loved Sting's original incarnation of this song, and was sceptical when I first heard this cover. However, Cassandra does a great job. Lots of soul.
