First - brilliant playing this duet right after the duet of Billy Eilish and Khalid. Opposite sides of the musical earth but still makes sense right? Second- none of the four artists are my usual taste. Now I want more of all of them.

Very nice songs, all these Jobim pieces. Although... the appeal of Astrud Gilberto's voice has always escaped me. So shallow, so inexpressive, so boring... I guess more than her quality as a singer it's the memory of a truely golden age of music.

The irony of this post is that "Corcovado" is from the same album, Getz/Gilberto, that is "Girl From Ipanema". And it's Stan Getz's sax. Jobim plays piano and Joao Gilberto guitar. I also grew up with this stuff--from the early '60s actually--courtesy of my father's enthusiasm before it was overtaken by Beatlemania. I still have his Verve mono LPs.

Jobim is one of the great songwriters on the 20th century, a master of the sublime. Bossa Nova may have been a craze in the 60's, but it is still very much alive, and has had a tremendous influence that still ripples through contemporary music.
