Beside me now, are strangers to my eyes
It might be getting crazy, might be wise
Stranded either way
Such a lonely place
I'm looking out for you
Among the flies that wait in line
The days on end
The nights are cold
But always so intense
I try to reach the top most every day
And hope I turn my face up to the sky
And the cover hangs so low
I see no sign of light
Nothing springs to mind
Among the flies that wait in line
The days on end
The nights so cold
But always so intense
Here we are
There's a smile between us
And it's going on
You and me have always gotten through
Anyone can tell you that it's true
You feel it every time
You drive away from home
Headlights hypnotise
They take you off towards the sea
Into the night
You run away
From thoughts you cannot hide

What a class act. Up there with the best songwriters out there. Chapeau!
It's so very funny to see comments older than my very teenage son on here...
Dammit, reminded once again of my grey hair...

Nice tune! But it is 6:45am & I am trying to wake up. ...time to switch to Rock Mix as my coffee kicks in!
Running to a Stand Still into The Climber Priceless.
Love the Frippesque Guitar in The Climber

I heard somewhere that he wrote this song about his mother as a coping mechanism when she died. Aching heart!
Although Finn is my favorite songwriter, I don't really like this album. The One Nil version of it is better than this re-fiddle, but still it's not the best. Needs more energy.

Great set! Yorn, LaMontagne and Finn. My cup of coffee is going down smoothly this morning.

Vacant eyes cant describe my hunger
For your billowing arms
Mother I cant help thinking of you
Take this dull ache away"

Word! The worst of Neil Finn beats the best of 99% of every other song out there!
Did you just say "Word"?? I didn't realize it was suddenly 1988.

i love the guitar on this one. Dreamy; groovy. It reminds me of Rober Fripp, of King Crimson fame. Anyone know who the guitarist was?
By the way, the automagic link w. each song to amazon info is great. How about another automagic link to the clientele on the album that the song is from? Such a link would answer questions like mine above.

Not my favorite off One Nil, but still brilliant. This man could write a masterpiece with a spoon and vacuum cleaner...... one of the best songwriters of our time! Amazing harmonies!

I like Neil. But, I'm finding this particular song a little long and boring frankly.

Love the song but not this version. Sounds like it's on the wrong speed or something, or that Neil has a stomach ache. I'm getting seasick.
Neil Finn! Yes! As another post said, there are better songs on One Nil (or One All, as it got labeled here in the US). I could listen to "Anytime" anytime, and check out the live version on Neil Finn and Friends Live - Seven Worlds Collide.
imagine this....a singer who can actually carry a tune and harmonize.!!!!
what a wonderful talent. thank you NZ for the fabulous Finn Brothers, and for Peter Jackson
FRODO lives!!
Us aussies would like to claim him as one of us, but only NZ could produce people like Neil and Tim Finn.
\'Private Universe\' is one of his best, check it out.
Not my absolute fave off of One Nil, but dude, I\'ll take whatever I can get. :)
* Yawn *

Um, Finn has been around since the early 80's, if anyone could be called sound a like it would be Radiohead, though, I don't see the comparison.
Wow that was beautiful. I kept thinking man I can\'t concentrate on my work, who is this making this incredible music. OH! it\'s Neil of course. I\'d grown familiar with Anytime and Turn and Run but this one caught me off gaurd. Beautiful Bill. Thanks.
Bill, please play \"Hole in the Ice\" off of ONE ALL, too.
if anyone in this world copies anyone it\'s the crows and radiohead copying neil finn. he\'s been a master at beautiful musicmaking since these bands were in diapers. and this song certainly is not crap. it\'s not on regular radio, which is crap. thank you, paradise, for making it available :)
