They do the sand dance, don't you know
If they move too quick (Oh-way-oh)
They're falling down like a domino
All the bazaar men by the Nile
They got the money on a bet
Gold crocodiles (Oh-way-oh)
They snap their teeth on your cigarette
Foreign types with the hookah pipes say
Way-oh-way-oh, ooh-way-oh-way-oh
Walk like an Egyptian
The blonde waitresses take their trays
They spin around, and they cross the floor
They've got the moves (Oh-way-oh)
You drop your drink, then they bring you more
All the school kids so sick of books
They like the punk and the metal band
When the buzzer rings (Oh-way-oh)
They're walking like an Egyptian
All the kids in the marketplace say
Way-oh-way-oh, ooh-way-oh-way-oh
Walk like an Egyptian
Slide your feet up the street, bend your back
Shift your arm, then you pull it back
Life is hard you know (Oh-way-oh)
So strike a pose on a Cadillac
If you want to find all the cops
They're hanging out in the donut shop
They sing and dance (Oh-way-oh)
They spin the clubs, cruise down the block
All the Japanese with their yen
The party boys call the Kremlin
And the Chinese know (Oh-way-oh)
They walk the line like Egyptian
All the cops in the donut shop say
Way-oh-way-oh, ooh-way-oh-way-oh
Walk like an Egyptian
Walk like an Egyptian
When I started flying for American in '88 I was based out of NYC and The Bangles were on my first flight. Great memory!
I hope you walked appropriately.
This song hit while my Navy squadron was deployed on a cruise. We all had the hots for Susanna Hoffs. Ending the cruise with no flights scheduled, we played the video continuously in the ready room, trying for a record "WLAE" Centurion Patch (commemorating played 100 times).
Did a backstage meet-and-greet with the band at the height of their popularity. We all had the hots for Susanna as well. Many of us tried to engage her in conversation. What worked, to our surprise, was one of our guys talking rabbits. She apparently had a pet rabbit at the time and we all stood in amazement as they chattered away. The rest of us were invisible.
Clearly you are not from Egypt and don't understand how offensive this can be.
Are you from Egypt then? If so, why is this so offensive? Which negative stereotypes are being reinforced by this song?
The perpetually offended, offend me. By their rules, they must now go away.

I always identified with this quote!
What a great girl band they were!
What a great band they were.
This song would be considered "incorrect" and could not be released today!

They're all on their phones, don't you know
If they try to twerk about (Oh-way-oh)
They end up on a viral video
приехали на радио парадиз?
I had a big crush on her when I was 15.
Better looking now, IMHO
I'd rather walk like a camel

GREAT BAND!!!
Same here, I agree! ...Even better in FLAC w/ K701 studio phones, great amp & DAC!
I walked to Egypt so I couldn't hear this song anymore
Did it work? Wish you had told me, I would have tagged along
I had a big crush on her when I was 15.
When this song played at the reception, all the small kids there started walking like an Egyptian on the dance floor.
Steve's really feelin' it...
This song helps define the 80s for me...in a good way.
King Tut was in the late 70s - it has a strong association with high school for me. Bangles is probably close to 10 years later.
If I’m among the public & this song starts playing, chances are you’ll almost always see someone (or at least me) — palms flat & @90° angles — doing The Dance.
It’s catchy & deserves a Pharaoh mount of praise.
10,662 km (as the gorilla walks) - don't drown in the Atlantic!
"not aged well" ? I never understood that term in regards to music.
What was once clever, new and interesting becomes trite, overdone, or found to have little value years later.

As a person who would like to have been (or still be) a pilot, that's a cool little tidbit. And I suppose we can all say THANKS to you for giving us the Bangles...cuz...well...
This tune is lots of fun with clever lyrics. A guilty pleasure I suppose.
To me, this is one of the catchiest pop tunes ever written. Never stopped loving it.

This was my experience too...I think I was in 4th grade when it came out...no idea how many times I've had folks ask me "do you walk like an Egyptian?" UGGG
Still...I like the tune too...rated a 7.
My back is hurting from the chair I'm sitting on where's the Tylenol?
If I lay down flat on the floor it usually kind of fixes it.
Tony Danza from Who’s the Boss? says hay-oh hay-oh hay-oh oh-way
Yes.
Susanna Hoffs...sigh.....be still my beating heart.
Every time I hear this song I still think of the parody song that caused so much uproar

Now look at em' MTV is a reality TV channel among 200 other reality TV channels
That's a fairly recent photo of Susanna Hoffs. Here's what she looked like 30 years ago:
It took 20 years to get this terrible song out of my head... I dont EVER want it back

Manic Monday—written by Prince
Going Down to Liverpool-written by Kim (forgot the last name) from Katrina and the waves
If she knew what she wants–by Jules Shear
and this piece of crap. Were they actually capable of writing a song themselves? Let alone a good one?
icing on the cake!!
Alas, Bill likes what he likes, and we get to go along for the ride. But I always did like this for some reason.

the only reason they got a record contract right there.
You are wrong. They're a cool band that puts on a good show.
And anyway:
