Just like a buzzin' fly
I come into your life
Now I float away
Like honey in the sun
Was it right or wrong
I couldn't sing that song anyway

Oh, but darlin'
Now I remember
How the sun shown down
And how it warmed your prayin' smile
When all the love was there

You're the one I talk about
You're the one I think about
Everywhere I go
And sometimes honey
In the mornin'
Lord, I miss you so

That's how I know I found a home
That's how I know I found a home

Oh, hear the mountains singing
Lord, I can hear them ringing, darlin',
Out your name
And tell me if you know
Just how the river flows
Down to the sea

Now I wanna know
Everything about you
I wanna know
Everything about you

What makes ya smile
What makes ya wild
What makes ya love me this way
Darlin' I wanna know
Darlin' I wanna know

You're the one I talk about
You're the one I think about
Everywhere I go
And sometimes honey
In the mornin'
Lord, I miss you so

That's how I know I found a home
That's how I know I found a home

A-walkin' hand in hand
And all along the sand
A seabird knew your name
He knew your love was growin'
Lord, I think it knows it's flowin'
Thru you and me

Ah, tell me darlin'
When I should leave you,
Ah, tell me darlin'
I don't want to grieve you....

Just like a buzzin' fly
I come into your life
Now I float away
Like honey in the sun
Was it right or wrong
I couldn't sing that song anyway

Oh, but darlin'
Now I remember
How the sun shown down
And how it warmed your prayin' smile
When all the love was there

You're the one I talk about
You're the one I think about
Everywhere I go
And sometimes honey
In the mornin'
Lord, I miss you so....

I used to hear this often while tending my plants on weekend afternoons at my hill-top penthouse in Setagaya-ku, the best part of Tokyo, from where I could spy the distant snow-cone of Fuji-san as well as down-town views from Roppongi to Haneda, and now, remarkably, it seems to catch me on weekend afternoons as I tend my window-plants at my latest lofty perch in Boulder, from where I can take in The Front Range from The Flatirons and The Divide to the west and north into Wyoming... RP and Mr. Buckley connect me to the church of my life's scenery!
Oh my lord. Him and his beautiful boy... If only.
So glad to see this song in RP's lineup.
This is why RP is RP!  Thank you so much RP!!!
Big heart.

Thats a studio album, isn't it? Do you mean Dream Letter Live?
Happy Sad is a top ten album for me.
Another banger from 69 ..
wow, 28 when he died, crazy
A very solid 3.
Bill has been my personal oracle since that very  first day I listened in 2007 and he played Ray Lamontagne’s Til the Sun Turns Black and Elbow’s The Seldom Seen Kid which in retrospect were obvious and immortal but then he also spun Mooncake’s Nine Billion Names and TV on the Radio’s Family Tree and My morning Jacket’s The Way that he Sings and Death Cab’s Transatlanticism  and all of these songs became inalienable aspects of my musical soul … and this particular song had always been a Bill favorite and was one of the rare songs that he consistently played that did nothing for me… in fact for years Buckley père sounded like a drunk uncle doing karaoke at a wedding, or maybe more like a drunk uncle, or possibly even myself, getting hammered in the basement and singing way too loud for the rest of us…but goddamn… now I get it it. And I wish I didn’t…god I wish I didn’t… but every last word of this song is magic…and also a truth I never, ever, ever wanted to live…but the moral of the story? Bill is the only algorithm that matters at all…Bill is the friend I always wanted to have to share music with but never did…but he is about as close to infallible as a man can be…and believe me, I know that de gustibus non disputandum est…and so on. Thank you, Bill. Thank you for being the friend I never had.
This is why I love& support RP. Thank you
The bass player, bless him, at times seems to  be marching to a different drummer. So here's a 9.

Two generations of untimely death. Both were such great artists.

Yeah, terrible tragedies both.

magical song - makes you wanna spin around like children :D
A rare but easy ten from me. A glorious, gorgeous track from one of my half dozen favourite albums of all time.
Beautiful song. While the album is called Happy Sad, I see the cover and all I see, sadly, is sad. Thank you for your beautiful music, Tim.

This is the sound of the good old days.

For me, it's the way he slowly drifts flat when he holds those long notes. It's a great song, but that grates on my ear. (D'ya see what I did there?)
Truly one of the great and sadly lamented inspirations in my musical life. I was just learning to finger pick my newly acquired Martin D-28 when he tragically passed.
This is the definition of whole-heartedly, I do believe
Tim Buckley doesn’t get played enough; anything from Happy Sad and Dream Letter.
Thank you RP for another great discovery.,it’s timeless
Heroine again. What is it with musicians?
Great choice for the night after the fly sat on Pence’s head. Thank you!

Every time I hear the opening notes it just just makes my soul happy
Five seconds in I thought: hé a Nick Drake song I didn't know
Have seen Jeff Buckley in The Netherlands ~1994, discovered Tim later, this is so insanely good, thanks Bill!
Sheesh. Both Tim and his son Jeff died at a young age. The things you learn from Wikipedia.

first time I heard this song was on RP..to be honest... I thought it was a rendition of The Wheel by the GD!  Realized when Tim started singing... Don't hate on Jerry... very good song. love the vibe
Melody flows like a creek
How can anybody grade this song with less than 7!?
Wonderful music/album from start to finish.
Buzzin Fly me to the moon.
He's got a unique voice and he knows how to use it.
Tim Buckley at his best !
Timeless beauty.

Simply beautiful and timeless. A true RP gem.
Now my friends this is class!
Unforgettable voice and tune
That portræt. Happy Sad so uniquely distributed. He didn't even know. "That's just who I am", he'd probably say. Strange how you somehow know your destiny, and at the same time, not knowing.
I hear John Denver in his voice. Or maybe it's the other way around?
This tune makes me Happy AND Sad....
amazing...
Wow, looked up at this album cover on my screen and thought it was Jeff!
Oh well, thanks for making Jeff.

Oh well.

Fuck.

Pain makes beauty, or something.
I'll say it again, it was 'discovering' this song through radio paradise that made me decide to become a monthly donor a decade or so ago
Yes woodchuck, yes.     (can you read these lyrics and read the gaze in that portrait, the face that would not live much longer, damn it all this is some beautiful music : )   PEACE
Nah. Coulda ended after about 0.30 and been fine by me.
With Woodchuk too ...
What woodchuk said...
This song brings a tear to the eyes of every rootless soul who has ever been truly in love.  A solid 10.
Most excellent, indeed.
awesome
Great song!

Great tune, but why did I think of Frank Zappa during the intro?

I believe Tim and Frank were on the same record label around this time, so it's likely they exchanged a few musical ideas and possibly even backing musicians.
Great tune, but why did I think of Frank Zappa during the intro?
One octave higher and we'd have Slim Whitman

Thank you, romeotuma - it lends a level of importance to this father and son legacy.  I love this song, and pretty much anything either of these Buckley people have done. (P.S. - what the frell WAS it that Tim Buckley ingested? Sounds like cleaning solutions... Whatever it was, it was just wrong.)

Still miss you so much, Cynaera...  everybody in my hotel room loves this song...
What a voice, LOVE his funk rock era, greetings from L.A. album
Fabulous song, remarkably sung, impeccably performed... Immortal feeling flawlessly transmitted... Eternally a favorite. Thanks, RP!
I was riding (m/cycle) through Chico California last week in perfect mid-eighty temperatures, this track came up.

Merely perfect.
A smile always breaks across my face when I hear this coming on. I don't know Buckley's music very well, but this track is outstanding and makes me want more.

Happy Sad is a great album and not one bad song.  I wish RP would play Gypsy Queen. Have only heard it once on radio on KRVM in Eugene, OR. Please RP more Tim Buckley.
Nice
How this song only has a 7.3 rating is beyond me. It is fantastic. .

This great song always takes me back to watering and lingering among my lush bowers of plants on my balconies with views of Fuji-san and Shinjuku, at my place in Setagaya-ku, Tokyo, from 2002-12, before the Japanese Govt. Line of "Don't worry, it's a safe level of Radiation," chased me out of there, for it seemed as if this used to play every weekend as I puttered out there with sliding doors open.

Back when it wasn't wrong to be sincere and sweet and kind - and a guy!
There must be a surreal café somewhere, where folks like Tim Buckley and Nick Drake take turns blowing each others' minds; performing new songs in front of a band that includes other geniuses like  Jaco Pastorius, Buddy Rich and Django Reinhardt.

For God's sake, don't get into a pissing match with the light switch: you'll lose.

This song kinda reminds me of the band It's a Beautiful Day (you know, "Hot Summer Day" which gets a fair amount of play on RP and "White Dove").

When he gets that voice really going, and the guitar sets up its strum, the tempo really gets to buzzing, and wow, my spirit begins to soar.
