Way down here, you need a reason to move.
Feel a fool running your stateside games.
Lose your load, leave your mind behind,
Baby James.
Woh, Mexico, it sounds so simple,
I just got to go.
The sun's so hot I forgot to go home,
guess I'll have to go now.

Americano got the sleepy eye
but his body's still shaking like a live wire.
Sleepy senorita with the eyes on fire.
Woh, Mexico.
It sounds so sweet with the sun sinking low.
Moon's so bright,
like to light up the night,
make everything all right.

Baby's hungry and the money's all gone.
The folks back home
don't want to talk on the phone.
She gets a long letter,
sends back a postcard,
times are hard.

Woh, down in Mexico,
I never really been so I don't really know.
And oh, Mexico,
I guess I'll have to go.
Woh, Mexico,
I never really been so I don't really know.
And oh, Mexico,
I guess I'll have to go now.
Talking bout Mexico.
Big ol' honky-tonk down in Mexico.

You’re kidding , right?
Hey Bill, what about some good music next? !
Mexico - Cake to JT. Great segue.
Not really my sort of thing but did remind me of the rather amusing Beck - Mexico so not all bad
Headed to his concert tonight here in Albuquerque!  Looking forward to it!
i love love love this album cover.
Ain't that Carly singing back up?
JT at just about his best. Most popular at least. He's still doing some good music but this is what we think of when we think of JT. Though, I think of it from his greatest hits album.

Thank you.  I think that, too.
Schmooooth before anybody else.
Yay...heading to Mexico in 2 weeks. Looking to evenings on the balcony staring at the ocean and listening to RP.
Warm chills moving through my body.
Timely. A couple of Thanksgivings ago we had my friend Jennifer and her family over for dinner, and her husband. Mike, suggested that we didn't have his favorite song ever—this one—so he could hear it. So, I took him upstairs to the audiophile rig and put on JT's greatest hits. It was worth it just to see this broad grin spread over his face, "I've never heard it sound quite like this..."

I could sure use a fish taco and a couple of shots of tequila right about now....  {#Drunk}
Being here... and listen to this... makes me wish being somewhere else... but nearby...
When we were on vacation in the Mayan Riviera a couple of years ago, we played this song first thing every morning...good times.
Ahhhhhhhhhh....much better now.  {#Meditate}

Caught JT live a few years back- one of the most enjoyable live shows I've seen.
Mexico by Cake 3.
Mexico by James Taylor 9.

I totally agree. Taylor is a very accomplished sing/songwriter, who's work is impeccable.
When I don't feel the need to rattle the windows, Taylor's music is a great antidote for the stress
and strain of living in the fast lane.
I think the song was almost half over before it dawned on me that this was James Taylor here on RP....  quite the rare event, but a nice addition.

Thanks Bill & Rebecca
This sounds too much like a Jimmy Buffett song to me...............blah!!  I am hitting the PSD button now.
i agree. Never fails to bring a smile when I hear his voice.

POSTCARD:First you take a small wooden implement that has (I've heard) some type of graphite substance in it. This device must be sharpened in some way. Once you achieved a satisfactory point you pull this device across a small square of stiff paper( this stiff paper must have what we used to refer to as a "stamp", haven't seen one in years,don't know if they still exist.)This is called {shudder!} 'writing'. You impart a  brief meaningless message. this is done usually to irritate a friend or co-worker who isn't "sitting on the beach sipping a frozen something or other" with you. This 'thing' must now be (and you can find the term on wikipedia)  'Mailed'?. At which point it is now lost forever.

LETTERS: hmmmmmmm, sorry ,can't help you.   Actually am familiar with an ancient type which is a phoney outpouring of emotion and remorse (scribbled hastily on a sheet of wood pulp product once refered to as 'notebook paper'),which is left typically in your house when you're not there,by a member of the opposite sex who has taken your possessions and best friend and moved to another state. Sometimes refered to as 'Dear John'. Except for the possessions part, this can be a good thing.

Hope I've been helpful, have a nice day

James Taylor - Interview:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xzh3Y6A_n1c

Interview with Billy Bragg in the herb garden at the Cambridge Folk Festival Cherry Hinton Hall.

"King Solomon is reported to have said......"Like somebody who takes a passing dog by the ears is one who meddles in the quarrel of another." My purpose in putting up this video to allow others to listen to James answer questions put to him by Billy Bragg about James Taylor's Musical career (not political views). It is simply a piece of vintage JT Memorabilia. It is sad that it appears to have turned into a meaningless debate over the merits of one persons political viewpoint against another. "  gjrmorris

"Music for me is formost music. If I want "intelligence", I read a book. That does not mean music without a message is not intelligent. It takes a mastermind to come up with a great melody or a great line of words like in almost any of James Taylors songs. When for example a political message is more important than the song itself the message will draw focus from the music, then whats the point in making it a song? (this is of course only my own opinion, I dont like political music, but love JT)   "     bulle450

"To give you an idea, I've never heard of Bill Bragg before this interview, but I listened to a couple of his "hits" and I still think that any song from "October Road" or "Flag" is better than the songs I listened to prior to writing this comment. P.S. none of Bragg's stuff can hold a candle up to "Sweet Baby James"  "

"Let popularity show who is the best in this case, James Taylor, not only being a national treasure, makes music that appeals to a higher level than politics. Politics are so chaotic, and people may disagree with me due to their drive to be right, but the fact remains that James Taylor is known by billions, and he has probably changed the lives of countless millions more than Bill Bragg. "        crazytrain81

Popularity should NEVER be the benchmark by which to judge quality or merit. American Idol, Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry are all fine examples of why this is true.

Totally brings me back to my childhood. Love it!
Si Senor!  I am digging this Mexico feel on thi Friday of all days! {#Cowboy}  {#Dancingbanana}

Such a funny song if you know the story behind it. :)
It's 4 degrees outside, there's snow on the ground, and the sky is clear and blue.  This song takes me far away, to a white sandy beach with just me and my salty margarita...  Yum.{#Sunny}{#Cheers}
No doubt!  This is one of those songs that just turns the memory spigot on full blast.  Love it!  More JT on RP!
Man does this take me back to some powerful memories...none of which involve Mexico, but do involve a sleepy senorita with her eyes on fire...
One of JT's best, and one of the best tunes of the '70s.
Saw him in concert a while back (with band).  Still sounded great!
Best junkie-voice in business!
Boring song, though!

I can't think of a happier song.  This just makes me feel good.  Great way to start the work day!!
JT is and always has been terribly overplayed indeed.....guess what? I don't care!! Love it!{#Cheers}
I agree ....I know JT is over played in most markets, but he has made a real contribution to popular music
I thought October Road was a very strong effort for an artist into the twilight of his career
lets not talk about the Christmas cd

Warm song for a cold rainy day. Perfect timing.

Perhaps should be followed by Wall of Voodoo's "Mexican Radio"...??  {#Think}

i get the cinco de mayo thing, but come on... james taylor?! REALLY?

Why not?
I flew into San Jose, Mexico once on my way to La Paz and the pilot came on and said something about James Taylor paying to have the airport built there...just so he could get to his favorite spot in oh, oh Mexico.
A fine song from a fine album from an overlooked artist, imo
Memories abound . . .

Miss you, sleepy senorita . . .

Digging this one.  It has a nice groove.  Is that Carly Singing backup?

I loves me some James Taylor.
Not much smoother, except a bottle of Corona on a sandy beach in Cancun...barring the swine flu, of course.  8!
Buttery voice... nice
