It's time to come away, my darling pretty
It's time to come away on the changing tide
Time to come away, darling pretty
And I need you darling by my side

Heal me with a smile, darling pretty
Heal me with a smile and a heart of gold
Carry me awhile, darling pretty
Heal my aching heart and soul

Just like a castaway lost upon an endless sea
I saw you far away come to rescue me

Cast away the chains, darling pretty
Cast away the chains away behind
Take away my pain, darling pretty
And the chains that once were yours and mine

Why did I have this at 7? Bump to 9.

Like Mozarts music does I think. It flows so effortlessly obvious.

I like the sentiment here, but feel like this would have been better with a lighter touch and a bit more spare arrangement.

Love. That. Melody.

That gorgeous guitar melody is just not long enough...
Fantastic guitarist.
One...fabulous...love song.

I don't understand why RP plays SO much Mark Knopfler or Dire Straits.  Fine to play now and then but RP seems to consider him a "core" artist.  I just don't get it.

I would have said this before I started listening to RP as well.  I grew up in the 80s and heard plenty of Dire Straits on the radio.  It was overplayed and while I liked it, I never loved it.

Then I started hearing Mr. Knopfler on RP and realized that he IS a core artist. It seems like every new track I hear from him (well, new to me) is another gem.  Thanks for the intro, Bill!
A bit repetitive. A bit repetitive. Compare to Water Of Love. Is this the same guy?

Guitar sounds like Ericโ€™s
Bloody Nora, a Mark Knopfler song that I like.  Whatever next?
Too much of this would never be enough.
insufferable
Mark Knopfler is my favorite guitarist (and top 3 artist) of the past 40 years.  He was very, very good with Dire Straits.  His solo work since is sublime.
His guitar sound is like aural mercury, just flows like a silver river.
I want to hear a Warren Zevon tune following this....
What I often say in the arms of a great guitar melody or rip.  It's 20 minutes too short!

I have no info on this but I met MK once and he is a very private man.  If you see some of his recent concerts he hardly seems to notice the audience.  Maybe comes from working with Bob Dylan so long!!!

But unlike Dylan he respect the audience  with a perfect and warm rendition of the songs !
Had forgotten how good this album was. Thanks!

It seems, it just seems, that RP plays A LOT of Mark Knopfler, but for GOOD REASON.  He is a master.

My only sad thought is, why didn't he attend the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame presentation with the rest of Dire Straits?  It was so awkward for the band, and seemed disrespectful on his part.  All I know is when he was asked if he was going to go he said, "I just don't feel it."  That was really dismissive of his fellows who were there to get their just reward.  All the other groups were able to play a piece but not Dire Straits.  It was a very noticeable gap.  Unless someone around here has the inside track, I guess I will never understand.   Did he part ill company from the band?

Wow - I bought this album on cassette in Vienna in 1996, and it was one of maybe... 2? or 3? cassettes in my bags for a year in eastern europe. Probably knew every lyric of every song on this album for a while.
As far as Darling Pretty goes - pretty classic, sublime, Knopfler. No frills... just gorgeousness.
Often I find myself enjoying the song even more due to the visuals that are provided to go along with the song. This is one such song. Thanks, RP!
I didn't start listening to Mark Knopfler until long after he started performing but am glad I was finally introduced to him.  What a pro!
Simply way too short of a piece.

Music appreciation is in the ear of the listener.  I was just telling a friend of mine today how Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler have gradually become firmly embedded on my top 10 list of artists I absolutely love to listen to.  One of the reasons I listen to RP is that Bill seems to think so, too.
Just an extraordinary melody, played to perfection, but 20 minutes too short.
What a beautiful love song.
The missing  lyrics at the end...

It's time to come away, my darling pretty
It's time to come away on the changing tide
Time to come away, darling pretty
And I need you darling by my sideHeal me with a smile, darling pretty
Heal me with a smile and a heart of gold

Heal my aching heart and soulJust like a castaway
Lost upon an endless sea
I saw you far away
Come to rescue meCast away the chains, darling pretty
Cast away the chains away behind
Take away my pain, my darling pretty
And the chains that once were yours and mineThere will come a day, darling pretty
There will come a day when hearts can fly
Love will find a way, my darling pretty
Find a heaven for you and I
Love will find a way, my darling pretty
Find a heaven for you and I

Umm, what? This track alone should answer this "comment."  Imho, it's gorgeous.  He is a superb melodist. And a core guitarist AND movie track composer.

By popular demand.
I think MK is a brilliant musician. Top notch guitarist and writer. I'm glad he is a core artist on RP.
Poor chorus (or bridge) but still a nice tune.
Instant 9.  Might get better the second time I hear it.

Tommy Emmanuel, Lewis & Clarke, segued into this is sublime. Great start to a bright Sunday morning.
TWISTER movie .. good song
I have to say I enjoy MK solo material much more than I like Dire Straits.

"Darling Pretty" , where have you been all my listening life?"
That guitar break is 20 minutes too short. Fabulous.
Who anywhere, ever, composes or has played a more *gorgeous* guitar melody. ?  Happy heart-ache beautiful. Music to live and die by.

Very good album, track it down if you missed it
First time heard this one.
Great {#Music}
Twenty years old hit, which I liked. Thank you for reminding.

Yet another first for me here at RP.
And shame on me. I'm a big Knopfler fan. He's one of my very favorite guitarists.  And I've not heard this before.
Not only will I now get it on iTunes, but I'm also sending a few of my measly bucks to this radio enterprise. With guitar pieces like that, is surely is a form of paradise.
And it's an instant 8.

This is a really very good album, would like to see more of these songs here.
THIS is exactly what I most value about RP - finding that hidden gem deep cut from a well-known artist. Anybody can spin Sultans of Swing, but finding these ones takes a special ear and effort. Nice work.

Bill, you always choose MK tracks that I really enjoy. Although I'm glad that the Sultans have been given a rest. They're tired from too many years of classic rock radio swinging.

That`s from the first solo - lp \"Golden Heart\" of MK. A great tune.
