I'm gonna live forever
I'm gonna cross that river
I'm gonna catch tomorrow now
You're gonna wanna hold me
Just like I always told you
You're gonna miss me when I'm gone
Nobody here will ever find me
But I always be around
Just like the songs I leave behind me
I'm gonna live forever now

You fathers and you mothers
Be good to one another
Please try to raise your children right
Don't let the darkness take 'em
Don't make 'em feel forsaken
Just lead them safely to the light
When this old world has blown us under
And all the stars from fall this sky
Remember someone really loves you
We'll live forever you and I

I'm gonna live forever
I'm gonna cross that river
I'm gonna catch tomorrow now

I'm gonna live forever
I'm gonna cross that river
I'm gonna catch tomorrow now

I'm gonna live forever
I'm gonna cross that river
I'm gonna catch tomorrow now

I'm gonna live forever
I'm gonna cross that river
I'm gonna catch tomorrow now

I'm gonna live forever now
I'm gonna live forever now
I'm gonna live forever now
I'm gonna live forever now

Dream of angels and sunshine
Rivers of red wine, and orange peel blues

I know RP listeners hate country music.  But this is great and a 10.

I guess you have to be there to enjoy it.
check out his video from this album, "slow train to Georgia"
a sad story with him and his son

thats life

he kept playing good music till the end
Had the pleasure to meet this wonderful man a few years prior to his passing. Always the most creative individuals with the saddest stories. Hope he and Eddie are jamming again on the big stage in Heaven.

Thank you, PSD!

Wow.

Had to bump it from an 8 to a 9, which is my standard policy for any song that can make me cry at work.

Johnny Cash once said that Billy Joe Shaver was the best songwriter he ever met. Pretty high praise from a guy who rubbed elbows with Harlan Howard and Cowboy Jack Clement, huh?

I want the solo acoustic version of Billy singing this song played at my funeral. God bless Billy Joe, and let him have a few peaceful years before he has to cross Jordan.

Billy Joe Shaver's Honky Tonk Heroes. Talking about the best songwriting!

Mr. Shaver is home now, with his son.

Tough year: BJS, Jerry Jeff, John Prine...

RIP gentlemen, you are dearly missed.

Wow that's some REAL TALK right here
His kid  was one hell of a guitar player!
Worth noting that this album's a one-off by "Shaver," the father-son group. See also: Tweedy.
Thanks for the thoughtful and interesting comment. Nuggets like these help make the full Radio Paradise experience so addictive.

DJ   WE get it your eclectic.  Please stops repeating this.

As for the current song  too twangy.  Not ready to bale hay yet nor milk them cows.

I love this whole damn album!!!!!

Hell yeah
I love this whole damn album!!!!!
We've seen him twice recently. Once at the Paramount for his birthday party, and at Floores where he opened for some long-haired redhead. He's still tearin' it up.
After a phenomenal soaring set with everything up to and including Antonio Vivaldi, Bill gave us the Pythonesque "and now for something completely different..."

And this. That was the most understated fair warning I've ever heard.

Thanks for playing this, Bill.  I recently was given a copy of Bill Joe Shaver's live album and DAMN! can he write great songs.  He may not have the greatest voice, but his songwriting and delivery more than make up for it.  Too bad about his son, he was a kickass guitar slinger.
Waylon Jennings must have covered about twenty of his songs.

Yee-haw.

And no, thank you.

Billy Joe Shaver is the man. Lived through more heartbreak than one man should suffer. The kid on the cover behind him? That's his son Eddie. Eddie od'ed a few years back, not long after the album came out. Billy Joe nearly quit playing because of it, but he did a gig awhile later, and realized he HAD to go on.

Billy Joe Shaver is one of the grand old masters of Texas songwriting, up there with Townes, Blaze, Joe, Butch, Lyle, Patty, Nanci...
With all the notes & options available to singers, why, oh why do so many try to hit those they know they can't?? (He probably wrote it, too.) This wasn't too bad until he hit the end of his range and kept going. Then it really became "too bad".

What on earth are you talking about?

Not ALL Radiohead fans. Some of us actually have open-minded, ecclectic tastes.
