HJ is criminally underrated.

I was guilty of underrating him but no more!!
Bumped from 7 to 9. I did not appreciated Howard Jones enough in the 80s. This song aged extremely well.
HJ is criminally underrated.
Lovely song methinks.
He still puts on a great show. Just saw him with Berlin and Culture Club. I wasn't expecting the show to be as amazing as it was. Love, love, love Howard and his messages to the world.
GREAT TUNE!  It is so funny, on the album cover, he looks like Stan Laurel, on the Wiki photo, he looks like Oliver Hardy.
A gem from back when pop music songwriters could actually work with melody.

Sounded a bit better back in '85. Is this a different mix?

i feel the same. it must be?
Without criticising too much, Howard is probably the only artist with RP playtime that I just don't get. Never  mind, I'll hit PSD, we can all be enjoying ourselves at the same time and maybe when you jump past a favourite of mine we'll be back in sync
I doubt this will be a popular opinion but I like the Phil Collins-produced version better.
So glad to have found you AND you're playing Howard Jones!
New Song was the first 7" single I ever bought.
Happy memories.
this song made me dream all these years since it was released. magic. always
There was a girl. We were in love, but we couldn't be together. This was the song she sent me once, and now, 20 years later, it still feels the same.
What a pleasure to hear this on RP! Howard Jones is totally underrated.

Funny everyone's talking about HoJo in past tense.  We're going to see his acoustic show in 2 weeks!

Did you make it? Was this before the shutdown?
Oh,man. The memories...and the feelings...and the 80's.
Worthy yacht rock this.

Oh my stars, forgot how lovely this was.  Time to dig the album out and give it an airing; I was rather keen on HJ in all sorts of ways back in the day

Yay! More Howard Jones on RP please - great blast from the past.

Odd.  I've spent a couple of hours scanning old photos from the mid 80's for digital storage and been a bit wistful as a result.  Then this comes on, which was big here at the time.  Marriage breakdown with little ones involved is a mixed bag, not to be recommended...

The NOW version.

There's just something nicely put together about this song.
HoJo! One of the first CDs I bought back in 1985, along with my first CD player (the Sony D-5, the first ever portable). I still prefer this (Phil-free) album version (which doesn't get as much airplay).
big 9 from me for the lyrics alone

I agree with your comment Sonus.

They're both great, but I will always prefer the original. More pure, less radio-ready. But I am certain I am in the minority.

I'd forgotten the original of this having considering the popularity of Collins drummed/Hugh Padgham produced take of it.

Still a good song.
