I know that many are big fans of The Doors, but I am not one of them.

Every time I hear one of their songs, I cannot help but think about how Jim Morrison let the people in his life down, and how inspired their music was, but it's a reminder of how self destructive behavior and disrespecting others can lead down a very dark and deadly road. I cannot celebrate self destructiveness and extreme selfishness, and it ruins the music for me.

of a celebration of life and times through their very visceral music. Sad that many of the most
creative simply couldn't live with the demons in their head or the amount of dope
it took to quill their madness. Some people just never pulled the rip-cord.

Especially when you think about all that time Morrison spent in 'nam. Every time he was home he thought he was gonna wake up back in the jungle. When he was home after his first tour, it was worse. He'd wake up and there'd be nothing. He hardly said a word to his wife, until he said "yes" to a divorce. When he was here, he wanted to be there; when he was there, all he could think of was getting back into the jungle ....

For the record the Doors kick ass, but you don't have to get drafted to enjoy them.

Hey Hippie, Instead of being so condescending to all us *KIDS*, how bout educating us instead? What is it about the Doors music that is so important to you? What are they *really* saying? My dislike of the Doors has nothing to do with what I *think* they said. I just don't care for most of their music independent of the lyrics. Maybe if I listened to the lyrics more closely, put in context of the time they were written, I would appreciate them more? Of course, I'll never be a member of the CLUB, but I'm willing to be enlightened...

Since you KIDS were never in the time or place where the Doors were you will never know what they really said, just what you think they said. It is amazing what a WAR and time will do for a song and a group. They had alot to say, but it was for us I guess, not the rest of you. To bad, you missed out. I would love to have takin you out on a patrol and then see what you would say about the Doors and what some of the songs had to say. I was there, 1971, Quang Tri, Vietnam. Ok, I know I'll get some flame for this, but IMHO if Jim Morrison hadn't died, he wouldn't have been the over romanticized, larger than life, mislabeled as a poet character that he has become. No disrespect to the man but I think his death did more for him than his music ultimately ever would have. I wish he was still around so he could dispell the myths of his greatness!
