Once, just by chance
I made a friend in an ambulance
I was half man, half broken glass
She had a needle, but I wasn't afraid

I'd slap the cuffs right on my wrists
I'd get so high, I'd arrest myself
For honeysuckle on a buckle
Broken teeth biting on my belt

High in a trance
My life smeared right past
In a blue light, I thought she was dancing
But she was just holding my cold hand

'Cause everything can shine
Even the devil sometimes
And while I was busy dying
My lord, she made some other plan

Traveling salesmen, carrying trunks
You can smell them coming like skunks
In the distance if your eyes can focus
That's how God once spoke to us

Trying not to laugh
They pronounced me dead at half past
And that priest, he pissed his pants
When he heard me start to say hello

Everything can shine
Even the devil sometimes
While I was busy dying
My lord, she made some other plan

My father had a racing heart (300 beats a minute).  Then of course it just stopped.  Luck for him there where medical personal close at hand.  As the EMT is about to put the paddles on him. He asks, "Have you heard from the Governor".  He was not a funny guy in general but he had his moments.

New Wilco.  That's exciting.  The lyrics are a great story.  Great as in well written.  Experiencing the story would be awful.

Well, he did survive. Maybe he got his life turned around and I dunno - went on to become a successful singer or something.

Never had a first comment before... after a decade of listening!  :-D

Back to business now: I am a pretty big Wilco fan, but haven't heard the new album yet. Ambulance sounds like a classic Wilco song, but not one of the more authentic-over-the-top-creative-Tweedy ones.
By which I mean: I like it because it's Wilco: incredible story telling, great production, incredible musicianship.
Additionally, for the fact of Jeff's voice sounding healthier than I have heard in years, I'm putting this one at a 7 to kick things off!

well said - I agree with you, every point!
