I'm living but I'm feeling numb
Can see it in my stare
I wear a mask so falsely now
And I don't know who I am
Despite the worlds inside of me
Cursing me away
I've noticed in others' eyes
That time is closing in

And when the thunder breaks
It breaks for you and me
Tarantula, tarantula
Tarantula, tarantula

The future's looking rather grim
A strange black tide
Decisions lie with foolish men
Along with my life
They're choking and holding me
Expecting me to fall
But only if I'm threatened
We'll see the tables turn

And when the thunder breaks
It breaks for you and me
Tarantula, tarantula
Tarantula, tarantula

Our world is under a sentence of death
I was born underground
But when the pressure gets too much for me
Bye, bye

Tarantula, tarantula
Tarantula, tarantula
Tarantula, tarantula
Tarantula, tarantula

Why hasn't U2 sued him for the build up leading to the eventual chorus..."In the nammmmmeeeee of lovee...."  ?

Beck could orchestrate and sing the phone book and I'd love it. His music and voice are like buttah to my ears. I immediately feel like I'm sunbathing on a Greek island.
Love this song!!!

Really likable song, but this version sounds a bit too much like a 90s boygroup to me... (background tune in the refrain)

I disagree, I am getting 1980's 4AD from - maybe This Mortal Coil?

That's an easy fix: just set the bitrate to 32k and pop in the earbuds they hand out on Spirit Airlines.
I almost thought he was going to launch into, "...in the name of love" a la U2, at the beginning.
too natural

HATE spiders, LOVE Beck and did not even realize he had a song in that wretched film. How did it win the foreign award? It was so far inferior, but there are political reasons for these things. See SHOPLIFTERS (Japan)  and DOGMAN  (Italy) 2019. You won't regret either film! And look, the freaky spider is dancing... must like Beck too.  He appears, however, to have camera lenses in his nostrils. He's probably signaling that his recording drive is malfunctioning or full...

How about a little love for BOTH spiders and Beck?  That's a jumping spider close up, and both my kid and I think they are the greatest.  Like little tiny cats, if you watch and observe them in real life.
I read somewhere that Paul Macartney "has melody dripping out of his pores."  Yes, obviously, but Beck in his way has something similar, and such great lyrics to go along.  I don't know what he actually play, but he is an underrated composer.
This Beck guy is very special....I know  he is 1 of the best artists I have enjoyed. His diverse repertoire , writing & production  R 2nd 2 NUN
Very nice but I keep waiting at some parts of this song for Bono to come out and sing In the name of love

Such a marvelous song from TMC; Beck gets  a point for sheer nerve.
I gave it a 7, and would probably have given it an 8, but it's simply not quite as good (in my opinion) as the TMC version, which is a solid 9.
Nice.
Graduate of the Peter Murphy elocution class?

Seriously, he gets a lot of stick, but I like this ...
I keep waiting for Bono to break in with. "In the name of luurve"
Can't help thinking of that scene in Red Dwarf when there's a multi-legged robot and Lister warns the others by writing "Taranshula" on a card.

Oh boy, this is a bummer.  I really like most of Beck's music, but not this Musakish version of TMC's much better and edgier tune.

Most of his mellow tunes now sound like this... rehashed 1000x. I like Beck but when he isn't jamming he's doing rehash.
Not bad effort!
Easy 8 from your ol' scurvy mutt
Dead Can Dance
This Mortal Coil
Beck
====== 9
I'll stick with This Mortal Coils' version rather than this Up with People rendition.

I like this a lot, the first part reminds me of Shawn Phillips.

Heard this one on KCRW today. The whole time I'm thinking "this guy sounds so much  like Beck" ...

Interestingly enough, the TMC song was a cover of a Coulorbox tune. So now my assignment for the night is to track down copies of all 3 versions. :)

I much prefer This Mortal Coil's version, but I'll allow this.
I love the movie!

Nice surprise, actually!
Any reason to get This Mortal Coil back into the public consciousness is a good reason.
