Come the war
Come the avarice
Come the war
Come hell
Come attrition
Come the reek of bones
Come attrition
Come hell
This is why
Why we fight
Why we lie awake
And this is why
This is why we fight
When we die
We will die
With our arms unbound
And this is why
This is why
Why we fight
Come hell
Bride of quiet
Bride of all unquiet things
Bride of quiet
Bride of hell
Come the archers
Come the infantry
Come the archers
Of hell
This is why
Why we fight
Why we lie awake
This is why
This is why we fight
And when we die
We will die
With our arms unbound
And this is why
This is why we fight
Come hell
Come hell
This is why
Why we fight
Why we lie awake
This is why
This is why we fight
When we die
We will die with our arms unbound
And this is why
This is why we fight
So come to me
Come to me now
Lay your arms around me
And this is why
This is why
We fight
Come hell
Come hell
Come hell
Come hell

They're dark, but I don't know that I'd call them gloomy, as I find they have a number of songs that are quite hopeful or beautiful. "Sons and Daughters" and "California One" are a couple that come to mind, offhand.

Many of their songs have historical themes. Much of history has a dark underbelly.

I could hear Morrissey doing an uninspired cover of this tune.

Everything Morrissey does is uninspired.
Come and take it!
The delivery doesn't seem to match the lyric content, lacking bite. The lead vocals are in the wavering style of Eddie Vedder and Natalie Merchant to my ears - a style that I am not tuned in to.

Yes they have a big following.  So many out there addicted to the gloominess.

Why the fuck do they fight? To be crowned  the most irritating song ever? They win!

Yep, some of the finest Indie Folk Fluff  out there for sure.

For me personally, it is the lead singer's voice. The band seems very talented and their songs always sound good to me, then the lead singer enters the fray.

I have rated almost all of their songs as a 1, but that doesn't mean I hate them (I find it hard to truly hate any music played here). I can completely understand why many people enjoy they work, but I just do not enjoy his voice. That said, I do enjoy this song and am really glad they are a part of the rotation here.

I feel it necessary to address the comment on Colin Melroy's voice. I've heard many instances of vocal proficiency from him. Ones that I can't emulate and bet you can't either.

I dunno what it is about this band that seems to polarize people so much.  I like their music overall and thought Hazards of Love was a classic concept album.  I hadn't heard this particular song before now but it sounds pretty good to me.  Why all the hate?  (It's an honest question.)

Just purchased tickets to see them in St. Paul in August.

Saw them at Rock the Garden a few years ago. They were great.
love dark songs.. there is so much emotion in them...
Yes, that would be me. This band speaks to me in a way I can't quite articulate...

Certain user names pop up again and again and again with the "this is the single worst song ever recorded the entire history of the universe" type comments.  My feeling is that the appearance of hatred is much greater than the actual hatred.  If in doubt, go with the rating.

Great song from a great live band.

I'm with you.  I feel the same way about Arcade Fire - totally don't get the hatred for another solid band.

Amen, I don't get the obsession with this band.

Hmmm....  I've never been much for The Decemberists but I'm liking this.  I'll have to give them some more listens.

Yay! I just gamed the system as the first poster and rater and gave this a 10! Thus, for a few seconds this will probably be the top rated tune on the entire site {#Bounce}
