When this came out, I had a friend in college from Akron. His dad worked at Goodyear and looked like the guy on the album cover!  He wore the same hat!

I played this album in the car recently and my wife was horrified.  This may be offensive now but you can't erase art and history because societal standards change.  The song is over 40 years old.  It's still a catchy tune, but yes Mongoloid is probably not something we should be singing these days.

I miss Devo. Starting out as the American Kraftwerk, they defined a whole genre: woke (as the kids say today), political and hilarious all at the same time.

DEVO - They were visionary pioneers. Musically original, clever and humorous. They kicked ass live and were also prophets that have been proven correct (unfortunately).

I love DEVO...thanks for playing this.  Remember, this was 1979!  So ahead of their time.  There are some very good documentaries on Youtube about DEVO.  Highly recommended.

I saw them bat clean-up at Lolapalooza in 98(?).  They played right after tool.  Maynard had the crowd in a bit of a lather, and then DEVO came on.  They were LOUD (much louder than tool) and almost frantically energetic.  The call 'Are we not men?' and response 'We are DEVO' from the crowd was one of those moments that is impossible to forget.

Weird! Was just talking about this song yesterday.

We were watching a show set back in the late 50's and in it there were DS people in an institution so the not so PC  term came up.

 "Dr. John Langdon Down, who discovered Down's syndrome in the 1860s, used “mongolism” and “mongoloid” to describe the syndrome as he stated that there were similar physical characteristics of people with Down's syndrome to people from Mongolia and Mongoloid race (those of Asian ethnicity)." - Wikipedia

Yes, they were a blast.  I saw them at The Bottom Line around 1978 - I had to use my friend's license (pre-photo days) to get in.
