Ah yes - funny how time makes memory fade. In reality, without QMS, the jam band that DEAD fans know and love so much, would not have existed. QMS was one of a very few and elite group of 'jam bands' along with Big Brother (remember?). Back in those days as I recall, (late 60's till about mid-'71) the DEAD were playing country-rock tunes.
Not downplaying the influence QMS had, but yeah, Dark Star (released in 68) is country rock
This has that shimmering, irrepressibly trippy-hippy vibe, that elusive, bright, liquid metal tremolo tone, and that mad-driving, cliff-diving bass that Jorma and Jack and so many others were into at the time. It still rocks and reaches me today!

Classic. John Cipollina was a great guitarist.
Loved this when it first came out and still love it. A great album that displayed all that was the 60's SF sound.
As others have noted, I thought this was the first Dead song I've heard that I found compelling. . . but no. I do really like it though.

This is a great cut from probably their one great album. Comparisons with the Dead are not really very apt, from my perspective. Quicksilver never wrote many songs. John Cipolina had a distinct and immediately recognizable sound, but as a guitarist, he was never in Garcia's league. The Dead played incessantly for a long time, which allowed them to work so incredibly as a unit (when it worked, that is). Who can say what Quicksilver would have accomplished had things gone differently? Happy Trails is a great memento of a unique period in time, but the band really did not grow much beyond this stage, whereas the Dead rambled far and wide.

So... both Quicksilver and The Dead were formed in San Francisco in1965. Boy did The Grateful Dead get the big break.

Yes about 45 years since I heard this too. To my ears now it sounds quite Doors like - loved the cover too then and it still looks great now.
