Ooh, sugar pie, honey bunch
You know that I love you
I can't help myself
I love you and nobody else
In and out my life (In and out my life)
You come and you go (You come and you go)
Leaving just your picture behind (Ooh)
And I've kissed it a thousand times (Ooh)
When you snap your finger or wink your eye
I come a-running to you
I'm tied to your apron strings
And there's nothing that I can do, ooh
I can't help myself
No, I can't help myself
'Cause sugar pie, honey bunch (Sugar pie, honey bunch)
I'm weaker than a man should be
I can't help myself
I'm a fool in love, you see
Wanna tell you I don't love you
Tell you that we're through and I try
But every time I see your face (Can't help myself)
I get all choked up inside
When I call your name
Girl, it starts to flame (Burning in my heart, tearing it all apart)
No matter how I try
My love I cannot hide
'Cause sugar pie, honey bunch (Sugar pie, honey bunch)
You know that I'm waiting for you (Waiting for you)
I can't help myself
I love you and nobody else, ooh
Sugar pie, honey bunch (Sugar pie, honey bunch)
I'd do anything you ask me to (Ask me to)
I can't help myself
I want you and nobody else, ooh
Sugar pie, honey bunch (Sugar pie, honey bunch)
You know that I love you (Love you)
I can't help myself

GREAT TUNE!! The "lead tambourine" in the recording mix, hurts my ears. That being said, the recording/ mix was appropriate for the time. It was mostly played on mono AM radio stations, with people listening through poor quality equipment, such as car radios & pocket transistor radios.
Superfly Honey Bunch?
Levi Stubbs.. What a voice.
Everything he ever sang just turned to gold.
So, so missed.

GREAT Tune!! Iconic!! (1965) Thanx RP!

Age 13 growing up in the suburbs of Detroit, such fond memories of the Motown sound! And still rings true!

Grampy come quick, they're playing your music on the internet!
Grampy's reaction - I didn't like 'them' then and I don't now, but thanks for thinking of me. BTW, do you have any Muddy Waters or Howling Wolf? Oh, ya, you don't know about them either... too funny.
Who played the instruments for this song/album? Funk Brothers anyone? They were great and got little recognition.

WTF? Where/What station are you listening to?
Having a sister four years older than me I have to thank her for dragging me along and learning early on what real music is and means! Thanks Judy - Love you.

Way to go mixing it up Bill! It's why I love listening to this station <3
Thought it was sugar pie honey butt. Live and learn.
Sugarpie, honeybunch
I have sudden desire to stand up and do the hand moves.
not good when driving.

Lyrically it's as poppy as it gets, but the music makes it work.

Spot on in the difference between acknowledging greatness and wanting to listen to something. I've bumped my 8 to a 9....my "want to hear it again" rating is probably a 5....I am liking BillG's use of Oliver Mtukudzi as a follow-up track....Long Live RP!!
Need two different ratings... overall greatness (10 for this) and "want to hear again" (0).

True Story Susie B!
LOL I guess I'm not the only one that hears this song's bass lick whenever they hear "We Exist" by Arcade Fire.

It's always good to be brought back to the foundation of R&R/R&B. Thanks Bill!

Only Duke Fakir is left, but he still fields a group which, from what I hear, does right by the original group. Someone made a crack on another song thread that they should be billed as One Top, which simply isn't fair or particularly germane. The Inkspots and the Blind Boys of Alabama have been fielding lineups for 70-80 years, and no one seems to criticize them for replacing deceased members with fresh talent.
Yes, there's a lot to be said about the backstory and vocal signature of the original group, but I for one am happy enough to hear a modern version of the group. For that matter, there are precious few rock'n'roll groups that keep the same lineup from cradle to grave.

Yeah, that was a great bass segue from genre to genre

Corny. A man crying in his beer. Sad sack. Almost saccharine. A diddy about a guy so beat up behind the girl he can barely function.
And classic. R & B pop at its finest.

I usually find the emoticons a bit cheesy, but this song really deserves a dancin' banana (or four)!
Pure Genius!

Nice segue on the bass line, Bill.
Classic - love a bit more Motown blended into RP!

Hanging out in the candy store with my friends with this playing on the jukebox.
Wow I'm the first comment. Good thing it's positive. Love Motown! Not my favorite Four Tops tune but it's good.
Remember "Cool" a great movie about soul music.
One of my all time favorites!
TOO FUNNY!!
