They just rearrange
The night and the new day
Gold exchanges for silver
And the light on a river
Gets carried away
On and on, on and on
On and on, on and on
I lift up my head and I wonder
Just who it is calling
Calling my name now
I trip on my way and I blunder
My head falling under
A blanket of shame
On and on, on and on
On and on, on and on
High and low may I go
But God only knows
Just where I am going
High and low may I go
But God only knows
Just where I am going
The people around me won't let me
Become what I need to
They want me the same
I look at myself and I want to
Just cover my eyes and
Give myself a new name
The stones in the sky never worry
They don't have to hurry
They move in their own way
But I have to choose what to do
How to act, what to think
How to talk, what to say
On and on, on and on
On and on, on and on
On and on, on and on
On and on, on and on
On and on, on and on
On and on, on and on
That's a vulture on Jack's shoulder - not a bonnet, Bill! :)
Strange effect though. First impression was: like a female chracter from Dickens novel.
Black and White, maybe?
Anyone that can build a functional guitar inside half an hour and play good music on it immediately deserves a pedestal all of their own.
....... and on and on........
Feel free to criticise JW to your heart's content. I really like most of his tunes.
Yawn and yawn and yawn...

Your comment has made me finally clue in to the fact that he is not wearing a Victorian lady's bonnet. I honestly thought it was some sort of goth, gender-bendy old timey thing he was going for with that image

That's what I saw too! I much prefer the idea of a bonnet.

Yikes! It's not obvious on the RP album cover image, but you're right if you look close. Gives it quite a different feeling!
I swear, the album cover is moving! Is anyone else seeing this, or do I need to seek professional help?
Ideally, you should be seeing your optometrist at least yearly. Just mention next time you have an exam.
Who knows, the doc may just be a Jack White fan!
worst song ever
since when?

well if you ever you ever had the time hmm time to see him preform on stage with just his wife on the drums and just him with his guitar White Stripes you might just might understand why guys like slahl clapton et al love this guy quite an hmmm show
Hmm. I'm going to disagree. I'm not a huge Jack White fan—too much of the White Stripes output is unlistenable—, but I'm continually impressed with his ability to absorb a vast range of musical influences and turn them into something original. He's compared to a lot of other artists because you can hear their influences in his work. His groundbreaking work with The Raconteurs and this album would seem to indicate a mature artist who is in the process of turning the page.

I think he's a pretty talented songwriter. Something about him puts me completely off, but I won't deny he writes absurdly catchy hooks.
I agree as to his talent... It's the nasally singing that turns me off.

LOL. and it's Quite Likeable!

Yeah, you're right. I can hear The Dead, too. Nice. Also, Jack White rocks.

The "new Beck" sounds like everyone else. Nothing original at all.
I hear led zep.
very well put
Please do!
And watch your language there young man. This is not a homogeneous group of same generation young, unilingual North American males from the same social status that you are addressing.
Translation: Show some class.
OK, Paps! I understand the words "shitty music" falls into your "no-class" category!
Translation: Take it easy, Paps!
Jack started out as a nice guy,
meanwhile he turned into an arrogant red-carpet loving asshole!
So disappointing!
The song...? Boring and not worth discussing why it is!
OVERRATED - the Jack White industry!
..democracy sucks that way sometimes..but it does beat the alternatives, i suppose..
..8!..
Dead-on analysis.
You keep saying that, Stingy, but you always seem to hang around.
@ Wonder Lizzy
Maybe because "Hanging around" of the STRANGLERS is one of my all-time favourites? Does that count for a reason?
Of course I hang around - simply because RP is the best radio-option, possibly the best music-option, "Thin Wonder Lizzy".
@ westslope
OK, Paps - but tell me, what exactly you're complaining about, before you take your belt. What language is it - seriously!! - I have to watch out for?
Is it the word "shit*y" (see how quick I am able to learn?) that you despise? For me "global-warming", "war-on-Iran", "investment-banksters", "embargo-on-Cuba" and "Pink Floyd" are bad words.
Class...? Trust me - I'm full of it!
" On And On And On" The sun and the moon never change
They just rearrange, but not in the new day
Gold exchanges for silver
And a light on the river gets carried away On and on, on and on
On and on, on and on I lift up my head and I wonder
Just who it is calming, calming my mood now
I trip on my way and I blunder
My head falling under a blanket of shame On and on, on and on
On and on, on and on High, alone may I go
But God only knows just where I am going
High, alone may I go
But God only knows just where I am going The people around me won't let me
Become what I need to, they want me the same
I look at myself and I want to

On and on, on and on On and on, on and on
On and on, on and on
On and on, on and on
On and on, on and on
and....? Is that especially lyrical? I find it to be rather dull and "nothing-saying".

Somebody would need to upload it first.
Totally confused by the Jack White flames. This guys is always interesting at worst and a great listen when full on. I wish we could see more Racontuers.
It's not a bonnet. It's a vulture on his shoulder. Look more closely.
SHITTY MUSIC SINCE AT LEAST 30 minutes!
One more and I must go!
C'ya!

To be compared to so many greats is huge honor ...I would say......I quite like this one ....ALOT!
Yeah...that's what he was conveying in this one.
Really nice...
I hear it too. Big Log anyone?
Love this guy.
Seeing some interviews with him I get the impression he is willing to try anything musically to see if it would work or not. Most times it does to certain extent.
I really like some of his stuff other bits not so much but I do appreciate the talent.
I do like what I heard off this album.
I thought the same , closer inspection reveals a vulture like bird sitting on his shoulder.

I've heard a couple of tracks from this album. It sounds really promising. I can't believe his range.
