I was in the shower so I could not tell my nose was bleeding
Dripped down my body to the floor right below my feet
Looked in the mirror at my face, I thought I had a disease, yeah

And there's a woman with her fingers in my icebox
She peeked around the corner and asked me if I'm okay
She put the ice upon my tongue and then it melted away

Alright, oak floor, soft pine bedroom door, yeah
Speak easy, make her mine if she's bored, yeah
And there's a dry pine ceiling that is out of my reach

I woke up and my hands were gone, yeah
I looked down and my legs were long gone
I felt for her with my shoulder but there was nobody there

I thought she left a note, just a tag on the pillow there
And then I noticed there's a rag next to my ear
The clock was ringing but it wasn't nothing that I could hear, alright

Sometimes someone controls everything about you
And when they tell you that they just can't live without you
They ain't lying, they'll take pieces of you

And they'll stand above you
And walk away
Yeah, that's right, and take a part of you with them

This Jack White guy is definitely an acquired taste, not for everyone. Super talented.

Gosh maybe we should play some Thom Yorke for you instead...
This song seems to be rather polarizing, but I like it better than other stuff I've heard from his solo album.  Sounds more Raconteurish.  {#Bananajam}

What does this even mean?  A complete non-statement.  Like a politician saying "It's time to put America first again."

Huh?

pre·ten·tious
adjective
pri-ˈten(t)-shəs
: having or showing the unpleasant quality of people who want to be regarded as more impressive, successful, or important than they really are

How can music be pretentious, anyways?  Maybe it's just, um...  good.
Great CD!

The NYT had a great long piece on him. You got the feeling that he was very good at telling (inventing) stories about himself. Let's not make a checklist for him to work through.

But I do think he makes good music.

Wow, you could not have picked a worse time for me to read this.  My beloved 'clones lost at the buzzer today to Ohio State in the big dance.  Ugh.  Super depressed now.

It's a little know fact that, 'Jack' loves to bake cakes after target practice where he regularly shoots 98.1% from the line. After that, he likes to check the stocks of cheese, as he can predict the price to within 0.1%. Then he retires to the studio to bang out some crackin' music.

Was only 1 week ago for me but agreed though a friend who had seen him before was not as impressed as I was

Interesting, most of the White Strips I do not enjoy, but this song of his I really did!

I like everything this fellow has ever done with the exception of a few abrasive solos within otherwise great tunes. Alas, that's just me gettin' old...
that was really good.{#Clap}
Musically terrific and I have to say that his vocals are just obnoxious enough work on this track. (Thankfully his vocal isn't overbearing to the point of destroying the music bed.)
....8->9.....
{#Wall}this guy is AWFUL.  plain and simple.

His voice sounds like Chris Rock on this piece.

Sorry, I don't get this. I know whence the quote, but I don't understand how it informs Byronape's TIC comment.
HEY!  Where's Meg???
As usu. for JW, the music is good. But in this case the lyrics are pretty lame.
This Kat iz my Hero!
Great to hear after Come Together!  Hey, Jack, glad you're back! and thanks RP for JAMMING THIS!
Watched him play at Roskilde Festival last week. For me it was the highlight of the whole festival. So many spot on improvisations of his songs from White Stripes, Raconteurs and his solo album. Great concert.
mr white understands the music stuff

"Can he bake a cake from scratch?" - Likely, with a recipe and the right tools, it isn't that hard.
"Can he shoot 98% from the line?" - I don't know, you'll have to ask him.
"Can he predict the price of cheese in Iowa?" - Can anyone in Iowa predict the price of cheese in Iowa?
"Can he make good music?" - I think that there are millions of White Stripes fans, as well as fans of his other projects, that would say yes.  I count myself part of that list.

One last thing...  the expression "that guy can do anything" was not meant literally.  At least I'd say it's a fair assumption.   Since you appear to be proficient in English, I think you should have been aware that it was simply an expression stating that White is very good at any musical task he attempts.  While you have every right to disagree, nagging about semantics is petty shows a distinct lack of maturity.

Or do you think that when people say something is "tighter than a gnat's ass over a rain barrel" or "slower than a snail on a salt block" they are actually referring to a real gnat  or snail?  If that's the case, then you are either an idiot or need to google the word "metaphor."

Man, that squawking voice sure gets in the way of some good music.
Brilliant.
The whole album is awesome.  Just listen to the endings of all the songs on this album ...
Great E-Piano part…
J. White knows what he's doing… always.
I like how he sneaks in the chord sequence to "Steady as She Goes"—also the chord sequence to "All Along the Watchtower." OMG another brazen rock pretender ripoff!! Call the Thought Police!!
I just picked up this CD, Very Good!   I especially like this track.
NOTHING LIKE coming home after a good run and having THIS bad boy banging hard on the super-boomer...
YES!

the Edge and Jimmy Page certainly think he's talented. Watch "It might get Loud"
This guy is incredibly prolific.  He seems to write a song a day, or collaborate with others on their songs.  I like them all.

This guy can do it all.  Most excellent!!

Robert Plant?  No, I think Jack's his own man.  He knows who he is.
This is another great Jack White tune.   I think it is better than anything I have heard off the Black Keys latest.  His creativity is amazing.   Don't forget what he did with Lorreta Lynn and who was that other older female singer he produced?
Everything about this, and everything about his playing, SCREAMS ROCK AND ROLL IN MIGHTY, AMPLIFIED WAYS and I dig it immensely!  HE IS IN HIS GROOVE HERE AND I LOVE TO BE SWEPT ALONG BY IT...and his lyrics are as soul-cracking as ever; YEAH!

Robert Pant ? LOL.

And no, I think he probably thinks he is Jack White.  Great tune.
