If by "old" you mean 1967, OK.  But this is not an "old English Folkie" by a common definition.  This song is a John Martyn original from the album London Conversation.

Thanks for pointing that out.  What an amazing guitar player.  The gauge of strings he uses are masssive!  I've listened to his original five times and still love it.  They just don't make music like this anymore and I think it's great that a band like Morcheeba did this version.  If only more of the new bands and artists would listen to the older stuff, maybe they would actually master an instrument and get rid of the vo-coder.  Kate Bush and others making the top ten list in 2022 is a hopeful sign that the younger generation is listening.

The original is from John Martyn's "London Conversation" released in 1967. Great tune. This cover is a solid 7, but the original is closer to 9....

Even without Skye, this song is pretty badass sounding, enough so to rate a 9,and makes me curious enough to go find the original JM version to compare this to; Long Live RP!!

and replaced with the above comment about being curious to hear the John Martyn original.  

And forever "LONG LIVE RP" - it is my eternal expression of love for this here Radio Paradise, where my neverending lesson of what music I like, dislike, love and loath will continue forever, with a heavy emphasis on the "LOVE" and maybe working towards an empty bucket of "loath"  LLRP, indeed!!

This album really sucks. A few of the songs are good, but they do the same song 3 times on the album, and, after all, Skye is Morcheeba and she is back on their new album (which I found disappointing)

I listened to the song without the knowledge this was Morcheeba, so I the song and I met without prejudices.

And I think I'll let it go this way. Sounds interesting.

A bit folkey for Morcheeba, but an interesting experiment which IMO works well. The songs RP have played from this CD have nearly got me reaching for the plastic again. Curse you, RP - you've cost me a fortune! :)
