There is a road that meets the road that goes to my house
And how the green grows there
And we've got special boots to beat the path to my house
And it's careful and it's careful when I'm there

And I say your uncle was a crooked French Canadian
And he was gut shot running gin
And how his guts were all suspended in his fingers
And how he held them, how he held them, held them in

And the water rolls down the drain ''(water rolls down the drain)''
The water rolls down the drain ''(water rolls down the drain)''
Oh, what a lonely thing
In a lonely drain

July, July, July
It never seemed so strange
July, July, July
Never seemed so, it never seemed so strange

This is the story of the road that goes to my house
And what ghosts there do remain
And all the troughs that run the length and breadth of my house
And the chickens, how they rattle chicken chains

And we'll remember this when we are old and ancient
Though the specifics might be vague
And I'll say your camisole was a sprightly, light magenta
When in fact, it was a nappy bluish gray

And the water rolls down the drain ''(water rolls down the drain)''
The blood rolls down the drain ''(blood rolls down the drain)''
Oh, what a lonely thing
In a blood red drain

July, July, July
It never seemed so strange
July, July, July
Never seemed so, it never seemed so strange

It never seemed so strange
It never seemed so strange
It never seemed so strange

Oh god, so totally tired of the Decemberists. Will they go away in January?
Radio Rule #41 - if you play a band or artist more than once in a five hour period, they must have been killed in a plane crash or a member has overdosed.
A lovely sunny song , and it isn't even July yet.
back when they were (relatively) strange themselves?
Can't stand these guys (and gals). His voice sounds like a ventriloquist's, and the lyrics like something he scratched out a bit too hastily.
I really like The Decemberists but never realized until this moment how much they sometime sound like They Might Be Giants. (Or at least used to in their earlier work.)
Meh. Go shake your chicken chains somewhere else.
i finally had tickets to see them in concert, and they just announced yesterday that they had to cancel their tour. apparently a member of the band is "very ill". i hope everything is OK
I'm so sorry to hear that. I just recently (since I came to RP) found out about these guys and I really enjoy the little world that they have carved out for themselves. Hopefully whoever it is will pull through with flying colors- they seem to have sort of a perfect lineup for what they do.
I though it was Robyn Hitchcock; then found out he has played live with them.
I know they were mentioned a bunch on the Colbert Report-but meh.

Reminds me of Syd Barrett's 2 solo albums

Especially at first. Then it gets just a little too normal to really be TMBG.

I love their version of ''Time Passages.''

As the uploader, I'm happy to see this actually got played in July ! Cutting it pretty close though...
One of the Decemberists early greats! Keep them coming.
OK that was wierd. Same comment at the same time ....
Jinx!
Is it just me, or do these guys sound quite a bit like They Might Be Giants ?
not liking it. this reminds me of 'they might be giants' which i think is my least favorite band of all time.
This song was the encore when I saw them at the Warfield in S.F. Great song!
July! My favorite month!
