Doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo
Ohhh doo doo hmm
Ohhh doo doo doo doo

I prayed heaven today
Would bring its hammer down on me
And pound you out of my head
I can't think with you in it

I'd drag all that I owned
Down the dirt road to find you
And my shoes, worn-out and used
They can't take me much farther
Ohhh

Something always takes the place of missing pieces
You can take and put together even though
You know there's something missing

The sun burned a hole in my roof
I can't seem to fix it
And I hope rain doesn't come
Wash me down the gutter

Something always takes the place of missing pieces
You can take and put together even though
You know there's something missing

She rides in a car
Like a queen on a card
And the guns of her mind
Aim a line straight at mine
To a heart that is broke
Tried to feel but got choked
In the smoke of a desert
A beach with no treasure
A night that seems blue
Feed the aching in you
And the background birds
Take a flight from the earth
A bonfire burns
And the night current turns
On a lifeboat floating
Down a river of sleep
Can't see her hollow eyes
Walking along with my boots full of rocks
Can't believe these tears of mine
I give 'em to you to keep away in a box

Something always takes the place of missing pieces
You can take and put together even though
You know there's something missing

Something always missing
Always someone missing something
Something always missing
Always someone missing something
Something always missing
Always someone missing something
Something always missing

Only to a point.  I am very wary of that claim of "responsibility" to look after what other people believe.  That is, after all, the source of the problem.

Yes, let's just ignore what kind of things religion do to people and hold them ransom to extreme forms of conditioning. Let's just turn a blind eye to people stronger than others making them pay to save their souls. Let's. . . Oh forget it. . .

I've heard he was a pretty good composer.

Funny - but we're better off not resucitating Stingray's attacks

SIGH AND TOLERATE THIS!

I actually like this and others off of this album and I don't give a _ _ _ _ what his beliefs are! I'm secure enough with myself to be able to be non judgmental and appreciate good music when I hear it. Let's chill with a good wine and close our eyes and open our ears.
A nice Beck song. Hope it doesn't become a staple of the ear candy at Home Depot.

I have yet to hear this on RP, was just listening to in my library and thought to myself, this just very well may be the best song he has ever done. 10

Sounded like doves to me.  Drives me crazy
LOVE this song — I would call it my favorite on Guero, but they are all so good....  I was sad he did not play this one in concert when I saw him perform a few years back in San Diego.

Geepers I love this album! This is like my fifth favorite song off the album.
Great...GREAT...song !!

I don't know what it is, but most Beck songs don't rise beyond meh. I don't get the fascination people have with him...he's my equivalent of Tom Waits or Steely Dan, whom I love. Beck a solid 5 and holding

But then again, 90% of your song rated above 7 are pre 1980, so this is not surprising.

Perdedor was someone hungry. Now he's self-aware of his star status. His songs feel different to me since Odelay.

The former two being said, there is a place in the world for Loser.

Right on sister! IMO by far his best effort and this is along with Ship in a Bottle my 2 all time Beck favs!{#Dancingbanana_2}

Kewl. Hadn't heard this track before.
Argh, he doth drone!! {#Eyes}
He sings as if he were a robot made by Honda.  Is he channeling Philip Glass, vocally?

LOL...OK, you may be pushing it a bit. Still, I have really come to enjoy Beck's artistry.  He has earned that moniker ("artist") for sure.  Cheers to Beck!

I should be the last guy (54 years young?) to be a fan of Beck's.  But there's something about his creativity and willingness to take giant leaps in various regions of music.  I only have a few tunes on my player, but having said that, I might have to add another - hearing this for the first time.  Interesting kid.

I have to agree with this, never really have seen the 'greatness' in Beck.  He has some interesting stuff but nothing I would go out of the way for.

Same here! One of my fave tracks too.
I remember the first time I heard Beck, I heard "Loser" on my clock radio in the morning. The song was so catchy and at the same time unusual I thought for sure he would be a one hit wonder. He sure as hell has proven my instincts wrong.
I've loved this CD since my first listen. I've worn it out.

Love some songs, don't like some songs as much. But what I like about him is that every time I hear a new song by him, I have no clue it is him. Every song, at least to me, sounds completely different. It's crazy how many different styles he has.
Really? I identified this as Beck pretty quickly, and I'd never heard this before. The combination of this rhythm and orchestration is a dead give away when he's in his Mutations / Sea Change mode, as is Beck's voice. This particular style of his usually puts me in the right frame of mind, though the Mellow Gold / Odelay / everything but the kitchen sink type material just doesn't connect.

Critics love him mostly because he draws so effortlessly and affectlessly from so many influences. He picks bits from a mad bag and shakes them together into a surprisingly punchy mix. I personally think he's brilliant.

I second that... he's amazing and each of his albums have a different sound and feeling to them. He's a phenomenal artist.

Beck is a divisive artist - either you LOVE him (like San Fran down there) or hate him. What is it about this guy?? Can someone explain this - sounds pretty plain to me.

you know what i love about beck? his records have elements of all types of music - disco, rap, electronica, country, world, rock. it's all woven together so seamlessly and nothing is out of bounds.
Exactly. And puts on an impressive show. Once when I saw him, he sat down on the floor and played one of those hand-pumped Indian organ contraptions. Next time, the band did a drum circle around a dinner table -- glasses, forks, plates, spoons, cups, all fair game. Awesome.

Guano
Good song. I'm afraid one of my favorite artists seems to be in a decline mode now though (since Sea Change). Anybody hear cuts from the new album yet? I'm not impressed (yet - I hope).
Oh Beck. You never fail to make me happy. Except on Sea Change. Then you just make me depressed. But I still love you.
It's not nice to tease the old folks. Wood blocks = 'Magic Bus'. Ever and always.

I thought I knew what good music is, but that knowledge doesn't help a bit, when it comes to BECK. I listened carefully to his new album, and leave alone all "SPECIALISTS" say it's great - I just find it BORING, TERRIBLE and "WANNA-BE". I do not find a single (!!!!!) song appealing. Is it me or is it BECK?
Mostly it's Beck. Beck = dreck (for the most part).
Somehow I don't like this song, too little profile for my taste. Anyway, shouldn't ruin anybodys day
hadn't heard this song before. was surprised to see that it's Beck. a nice surprise. i find myself bobbing along with the beat while at work.

Oh man, I can't believe I haven't heard/rated this song on RP until now (I've had the album since it released, though). 9, fo-sho. That drum beat that starts off and kicks all the way through is STELLAR. The guitar part, and the subtle background details are awesome as well. This is a saving grace while I'm stuck here late at work...

oh beck, i know the feeling. this is a good one.
My favorite track off this album. Feels so good to dance to.... ...even though you know there's something missing.
Not quite as bad as most Beck, maybe. . . .
I've always found Beck to be a pretty good time.
