I once ordered The Working Man's Dead vinyl off of Amazon. Since most employees there work in impossible conditions, I got this record instead which I never heard. I put it on the turntable just as my then flat-mate Liza came home and (bless her) she was so impressed by the whole experience she bought me David Bowie socks for my birthday!
Been a Bowie fan since. The universe can be a funny place.

Mike!Can't say enough about Mike Garson's contribution to Bowie's sound over the years. Title track to this album is another great example.

The Uncut magazine retrospective of every album by Bowie is pretty spectacular if you are a Bowie fan....highly recommended. Needless to say a fantastic tune.

Caterwauling to the max! Over the years I have been exposed to mucho David Bowie, as haven't we all. There were parties back in the early 70s when it was impossible to avoid Ziggy Stardust et al. Not very pleasant for me. However, time has allowed me to see that he was on to something unique and lasting. But, when he moves into his bellowing/warbling/garbling singing mode, as exemplified in this piece, my aversion is rekindled. Maybe it was the cocaine that befuddled his judgement, or maybe it was a phase. Still, even with rock music there may be limits and I think he passed them without any recognition that he had moved into the zone of self-parody. It's his right, but jeez!

Well, David Bowie was nothing if not innovative; that tango-like intro to the song and verses is great. (Of course, this is from one who has a soft spot for tango.)
Like his makeup, the song doesn't hold up well over time.

same to me here at this early afternoon CET. The story went similar, but I fell in love with both, David, and Beate. She was engaged already, so what remained to me was rowing the other love besides the 200 other loves in at that time in my record room.
