Back in the early 60s, a kids show called Captain Kangaroo had this song on a spot. black background, hands in white gloves, clapping. I was enthralled then and now.

I certainly saw that -- and remember it now with the mention of it -- but of course I had no idea what the music was. I was probably not even thinking in those terms yet.
How in the world did you know (or figure out) what the song was?!! Either a much more recent search/encounter, or you were seriously up on your music back in the day. (Or maybe that was before "the day.")

Well, for starters, Take Five is mostly in 5/4 measure, and this song is in 7/4. Also, they're completely different songs.
If 4/4 time is good that makes Take 5 125% good and this 175% good.

Have you got a steady boyfriend?
Cause honey I've been watching you
I hear you're mad about Brubeck
I like your eyes, I like him too
He's an artist, a pioneer
We've got to have some music on the new frontier

Wasn't this in the film "Baby Driver?" Great tune

1951, must have been seen as radical.

Wes Anderson Movies (first part), anyone?

I can't hear this anymore without thinking of Baby Driver.
But that's great! Baby Driver is one of my favorite movies, and it's pretty much a 2 hour music video; if you're a music fan, you've got to see it.

Thank you Mr. Brubeck! Great up beat tune. So much fun.
For those who wanted him to do more up tempo stuff, Mr. Brubeck was quoted saying that this was for all the toe tappers in his audience. (and thus be satisfied and stfu)
Was listening to this when I was 12, still love it today.
Totally unsquare!

As in time signature, not rating - 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7. And I agree, feels more like 7/8 than 7/4

Genius.
he is the master of making songs w/ unusual time signatures accessible...
It's like the only people that showed up for the song was a stoned bassist and a slightly mentally handicapped midget tap dancer...
Not my bag.

My grandmother introduced me to Dave Brubeck when I was in middle school. She could throw a wicked fastball and definitely knows her staple jazz musicians.

As much as I hate to say it, the Paddy Milner cover makes this one sound fairly lifeless...
Still enjoyable though!
It's got a cool groove. Kinda modern, like something from the movie "Catch me if you can".

A-HA! I'm loving the fact that my desk is now clear enough to hear the audio tracks bouncing back and forth between the two speakers.
A throwaway? Don't think so. Mr. Brubeck did all sorts of interesting things in different "times." Love the segue from Fagen too.
Mr Brubeck should apologize to the world for putting out this piece of crap.
Hard to believe this is from the same musician that did "Take Five"
