Listen Mr. DJ
Won't you play me something slow
Play me the songs
For the lonely ones
Play me something
That I know
Hey Mr. DJ
I'm in a sad mood tonight
Play me something just for me and my baby
Won't you make everything alright
I'm gonna turn it way down low
Leave it on all night long
Till the morning comes
Like my lover my friend until the end
And that special someone
Hey Mr. DJ
Play me Rainbow 66
'Cos I'm drifting like a ship out on the fog
And I just don't know what's coming next
Gonna turn it way down low
Leave it on all night long
Until the morning comes
For my lover my friend until the end
And that special someone
Hey Mr. DJ
Play me Rainbow 66
'Cos I'm drifting like a ship out on the sea
And I just don't know what's coming next
Well, Mr. DJ
I'm in a sad mood tonight
Play me something for me and my darling
Want you to make everything
Alright
La, ta. ta, ta, tata...
Won't you play me something slow
Play me the songs
For the lonely ones

What a GIANT he is. Sustaining a stellar career for almost seventy years. What a breathtaking accomplishment.

BILL, YOU MADE MY DAY !!!
Liebe Grüße an alle aus Recklinghausen, Germany

Many had stopped following Van the Man at this point.
But for those who continued he was still putting out great albums.
For those interested please check out Magic Time circa 2005

Van the Old Man here
Thought he was covering Sam Cooke when I first heard this. Maybe borrowing is a better word?

I have to admit I prefer his output from way back when he was a young fart.
Fart! (that's all these comments deserve)
I don't get it. If you don't like the song or the musician, move on, however your steaming device allows. I love Van and that won't change no matter what is written about him.
Mumbles? No. Musically, I hear crisp horn sections and beautiful strings arrangements. I also love everything from St. Domenic's Preview, Veedon Fleece etc.

Bill - please note that the lyrics showing here are for a different song.
Yes - it's old and no one uses a full orchestra for popular music any more. Especially not this style with so many violin slurs (that's a music term, not an insult). Bear with us who remember some good times with this type of music.

Ah....to have a least one pal who shares a healthy dislike for VM. In truth, for me, this song isn't nearly as bad as the rest of his yelping.
'Healthy'? 'Old' is not an healthy argument to put an artist, or whoever down, IMO. There are lots of people of Mr. Morrison's age who truly can be called old and some people have never been young anyway, it seems.

Is it an upload? GOOD CHOICE!
Yes, it was my upload. WOOOOOOO HOOOOOOO!!!
I love Van M, but not this kind of sound (loungey saxophone-focused, over-produced backup vocals, kind of boring). I much prefer to hear his Celtic-folky stuff, like the little-known and AMAZING album Veedon Fleece, or stuff off St. Dominic's Preview.
I love this song.
