Little village baby, ain't large enough to be a town
From a little village baby, ain't large enough to be a town
Gotta get away from the city
It's gonna bring you down
Heard the voice of the silence, in the evening
In the long cool summer nights
Heard the voice of the silence, in the evening
In the long cool summer nights
Telling me not to worry
Everything's gonna be all right
There's only two kinds of truth
Baby let's get it straight from the start
There's only two kinds of truth
Let's get it straight from the start
It's all what you believe
Baby in your head and your heart
Heard the bells ringing
Voices singing soft and low
Heard the bells ringing
Voices are singing soft and low
Way up in the mountain, little village in the snow
Raining in the forest
Just enough to magnetise the leaves
Raining in the forest
Just enough to magnetise the leaves
We'll go walking baby with the moonlight shining down through the trees
Little village, way up on the mountainside
Little village baby, way up on the mountainside
Way across the ocean with you by my side
From a little village baby, ain't large enough to be a town
Gotta get away from the city
It's gonna bring you down
Heard the voice of the silence, in the evening
In the long cool summer nights

I never tought Van's song would start a physics course. Let's start with the Greek atomists.

I think he means that the rain is bringing the leaves closer together (since they are weighed down by the water), which makes them appear to have been magnetized.
And then stick together due to surface tension...

"Raining in the forest
Just enough to magnetise the leaves" I was not aware of this phenomenon. Perhaps a physics expert could fill me in.

Loved this new Van for me—gotta try the album now.

Nicevery nice
IMO, his best record in the last twenty years ( I haven't cared for most of the stuff after "Too Long In Exile" in 1993. )

I came to say he shouldn't play the sax. I don't like his tone or style at all. But your mileage may vary.
ETA: Van, please step away from the cat.

Not always a bad thing. Think of John Martyn.

Well, it's a I-IV-V progression, which he has used hundreds of times, but this sounds pretty good. Cool design and typography on the cover.
Another example of the infinite variety afforded by the 12-bar I-IV-VI structure. This is sublime.

I love the way he's controlling his voice, instead of yielding to wild vocal histrionics. This is a really good song. And yeah - the sax is good, too...

Got a new girlfriend (more like another victim actually) anyway things were gettin' pretty hot 'n heavy last night. Radio Paradise was on (like always) and 2 things came to mind... 1: I really wish she had a roommate.. and 2: I really wish they'd play some Van Morrison

"Van the man." RR
This is really nice.
Great tune from Van the Man. Sure is nice to hear Van other than Brown Eyed Girl.

The sax on this sounds too much like easy-listening for me. I prefer older VM.

The mumbling and stumbling of the lyrics is old . . . annunciate Van, please!
Hmm, I like this! And it's not among the (many) Van records I already have. May have to go out and buy this CD.
After David Byrne (last song), Van is like buttah.

You're tired.
Considering Van is a "Poetic Champion" I think we should take this lyric from a poetic perspective. Raindrops on leaves? I find them somehow fascinating (i.e. magnetic) to look at, even mesmerizing. And that's sober!

Wait a minute! Little Village did a song called "Van Morrison"? That's weird.
Van is one smooth dude. A classic.
although i like van-seeing him in concert ruined it for me. dude-get over yourself, you're a singer, not a heart surgeon! That said, I love Bang Masters.
One of the few VM's CDs I somehow passed over. Repeated play on RP makes me think I made a mistake and that I might have to get this. 2005's Magic Time was great too, by the way. Love to hear some from that.
Iconic artist with one of the most individual voices...great arrangement here.

Same old great Van Morrison. Sometimes it's good to chill. Lean back and close those eyes...
Why is it that this guy always sounds perfect in the middle of a mix? I don't think I would enjoy listening to a whole CD of VM nearly as much as I love him in a set of various artists. "Whatever!" ...works for me.
Van is the man!
I didn't care for this CD when I first bought it, but it has really grown on me. I now think it's one of his best recent efforts (up there with "Back on Top").

Nice tune. Good to hear some of the more recent Van in the mix here along with the older stuff.
Imagine a Van career-spanning Box Set. What an undertaking.

I'm a huge Vanfan: I even own a lot of the CDs released over the past 10 years. I have to say that I find the quality of the recent stuff kind of mixed. However, I don't own this CD. I do like the sound of this tune, reminiscent of St Dominc's Preview and that era.
I couldn't resist being first to comment on a song that hasn't even been played yet. Great song, but don't go buy the album unless you're a real "vanfan." Some good old blues-style stuff (Whining Boy, Stop Drinking That Wine), but a whole lot of whining, too.
