I can't hear the songs he sings
All the jewels in Heaven
They don't look the same to me
I just wade the tides that turned
Till I learn to leave the past behind
It's only lies that I'm living
It's only tears that I'm crying
It's only you that I'm losing
Guess I'm doing fine
All the battlements are empty
And the moon is laying low
Yellow roses in the graveyard
Got no time to watch them grow
Now I bade a friend farewell
I can do whatever pleases me
It's only lies that I'm living
It's only tears that I'm crying
It's only you that I'm losing
Guess I'm doing fine
Press my face up to the window
To see how warm it is inside
See the things that I've been missing
Missing all this time
It's only lies that I'm living
It's only tears that I'm crying
It's only you that I'm losing
Guess I'm doing fine
I, along with many of your fellow human beings, have resolved to accept followers of Scientology in precisely the same way that we accept followers of any of the "organized" religions to be found on Earth, including yours...
It doesn't have to be a concession as crogers' suggests. All people cling to some ideology. No one is immune. Including crogers.
"Long-time listener, first-time writer." Sitting here quietly laughing at the negative language some people enjoy.
I'm actually in the Radio trade here in Ireland and, like performers at ALL levels, attract my share of vitriol. My standard response is, "Lads, if you don't like it, don't try to poison my life; just listen to something else." Simple.
Peace out.
Pat.
No. Former Scientologist and a LOSER (baby).

This makes me wish there was a "delete" button so I don't have to see this again.
I'm imagining this complaint being voiced in the whiniest possible voice.

Yes! What they said.

If you like this.. You must inspect the entire scope of his release "Sea Change." If there is a better break-up concept album, please tell me what that is.
Wow. Good call....
I like this tune, esp. with the Alman bros thought.
This is by far my favorite album of his. Any critic that says that is not a very well versed critic IMO.

Nice call - and it does work.
Beck is one of the best in music today.
Agreed!
Beck is one of the best in music today.
(And if you need something more raw than Beck, on a similar, heartbroken theme, check out nearly anything on "End Times" by Eels—not for the faint of heart.)
Nice post, and I agree completely. Love this Beck CD and that crazy/melancholy Eels disk as well.

This song does it. I think I might actually be able to sleep without dreams tonight. And Beck, I mean that in a GOOD way. Beautiful, ethereal song. I didn't listen to your lyrics this time, because honestly, I just fell into the music. Thank you.
I'll add my nodding head....to just plain dreary too!
Certainly left you bitter, didn't it?
The song is just plain bad.
Just an extraordinary album; start to finish. By far his best effort!

Derren Brown could use this song as it's so hypnotic. I can feel myself getting sleepy, so sleepy...

I find it hard to believe you've listened to much of Beck's music. This particular song is from an album of slower songs written after a painful breakup, many people, including me, find the songs quite beautiful. But the majority of Beck's music is not like this, it's very hard to label the guy. His music is modern, it's vibrant, it's inventive, and it draws from a wide variety of influences from pop, country, hip-hop, jazz, etc. I thinks he's one of the most interesting artists in music today. If you give his music a chance I think you might change your mind.
lots of Beck haters showed up for this one. I love this album.
Do we?

Tried to explain, and succeeded well.
why I am 102% unable to find anything, literally
AAANYTHING in this guy´s music, may it be this
or any other song.
If I am not annoyed, I am just bored. Yaaaawn!!!!
PS
Yes, usually I know what good music sounds like!

We're all different and have different musical tastes. Nobody likes everything. Personally, I wonder why I like Beck as much as I do.
W-Y-Y-Y-Y-L-D hor-SES, couldn't DRAG me a-W-A-Y...
Oh great. Now that i hear it i'd much rather be listening to Wild Horses.
Perzactly my thought. And I'm okay with that: GA is one of my fave Beck tunes.

Because you are only LISTENING to Beck. You are not HEARING Beck.
