Both have incredible talent and merit. Something about Knopfler's guitar is "singing", whereas this seems more about technical abilities. I think Knopfler has more emotion in his playing....just an opinion.
Yeah, because you can HEAR genuine emotion in guitar playing ;-)

Here is a challenge for our illustrious DJ:
Can you somehow transition from this to a growly Robert Johnson version of "Crossroads," then some version I haven't heard yet of "Whipping Post"?
pretty impressive. don't care about the guitar fuzz.

nice interpretation.
This song has gained my undivided attention.

This is good stuff, alright. I'm continually astounded at how natural the flow is between songs I'd never even think of putting together. Four songs ago the Clash were singing about an Italian mobster shooting a lobster! How'd we get from there to here? I dunno, but I love it.
I am enjoying this, but I like Beethoven on a banjo, better. Played of course by Bela Fleck.

I have loved these guys since ?. Last year they appeared in Portland for a turnout of maybe 75 people. I thought the place would be packed. Front row, center in a small venue. After the show they hung out and we conversed like old school pals. Prety neat when such talent is also so warm. Some years ago they opened for King Crimson here in town. Possibly the best concert of my life.
BUY THEIR MUSIC! You won't regret it!
Wonderful rendition of a clasical masterpiece. Really eclectic!

Nor does it imply I will take Cream over Beethoven on a regular basis.
Oh, but Cream did not write "Crossroads"! It was written by Robert Johnson; who may not have invented the blues, but he sure perfected them! Kinda' like what Beethoven did for symphonies... :goodvibes:
Neil
:curtain.gif: I love this instrument. And classical music. Both give great joy Thanks RP 4 California guitar Trio!!!
Daring. And good.
Beethoven will, any second of any day, turn Clapton, Richards, Lennon, Springsteen, etc. into duffusses by comparison. Maybe we should keep this what it is ... a rock/folk radio dial.

Very, very nice. What's the rest of the cd like?
Run, don't walk, to your nearest retailer and buy everything this Trio has put out. And talk to iTunes about carrying their stuff, too!
Very, very nice. What's the rest of the cd like?
This suits the guitar surprisingly well. I'm not sure I'd want to hear a whole CD of it, but I enjoyed this track.
While I do enjoy CGT, Turtle Island SQ just kicked their butts in this duel.
But to be fair, it is 4 against 3.
Nor does it imply I will take Cream over Beethoven on a regular basis.
Very nice segue from "Turtle Island String Quartet - Crossroads".... :D

Wowsers... Like this arrangement a lot.
Next up...Beck's Bolero, right? :propeller.gif:

I love both, for different reasons. This is technically outstanding, but it doesn't take me somewhere else, like MK does......

Saw them a year ago. One of the guitars is this stretched out unit that is almost part harp. Never seen anything like it. These guys are amazing.
Maybe you can find a picture of it at (click here)...

The phone rang and I missed it!!
" I'll save you NELLLL!"
"Oh Dudley, my Hero!"
Well, I'll be.... Never heard this attempted on a guitar before!
Works for me!
.. \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/
\:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/
While I'm gradually coming around to these three, I'll still take blues on a cello over beethoven on a gee-tar. That last song was amazing.
...DeBussey, Beethoven , What's next?
Amadeus?
Once again, RP sets the standard. This music makes me feel very eclectic indeed. :iamwith:
Hokey Smokes!!! This is GREAT!

You can listen to it here: Bohemian Rhapsody, live from CGT Rocks the West
So, I outgrow my guitar teacher in the suburbs.
Head downtown to learn there by referral, & the guy's into teaching technique of this sort. Blew 'em off, I wanted to rock. Started a band. Played Bars. Blues. Top 40.
Now, this would've gotten me goin'. And kept my technique improving.

Heard it a couple of times -- lots of fun. These guys are not, I think, to be confused with the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, who, despite being serious classical musicians most of the time, perform a hysterical rendition of Pachelbel that they call the "Loose" Canon.

I just LOVE RP....Where else can you get The Who, Squirrel Nut Zippers, then Beethoven in a one hour period? THANK YOU BILL. My donation was worth every penny!
*Sweet*
Huh... almost as impressive as the orginal piano version.
Bravo!
one word: NICE!!!
I'm impressed! How do you make a guitar sound like a harpsichord?
A great piece of music, and a great performance, but somehow it brings to mind silent movie music, ya know, the "Little Liza tied up on the railroad tracks" kinda thing.
How can you go wrong with Beethoven?
Dang! The lowest rating so far is a 7!
Very nice.
This is one of my favorite songs! I've never heard this version, and I love it!
I bought this CD. Excellent!
Great set. Dammit Bill, you're making it hard for me to leave work!
Ohh ohh :) fine ... that track opens to me a lot of uploads of classical music adapted to jazz
