Farrar
When you know when you can step down
Then you know you've joined the crowd
Castanet talkers and angles they vie
Block out the noise and catch your eye.
Kicking in on the chorus of time
Living level is no reason to hide
They say it takes a mountain to make a difference
Ride a catch or second guess before the big sleep.
And I know you're gonna make it alright
I know you're gonna make it alright
I know you're gonna make it alright.
You never know when the tables will burn
The bridge you take, you take when you learn
It's just a game not reinventing the wheel
Just getting by no big deal.
Flipside waits while the hawkers still stand
Strike up the chord and strike up the band.
They say it takes a mountain to make a difference
Ride a catch or second guess before the big sleep.
And I know you're gonna make it alright
I know you're gonna make it alright
I know you're gonna make it alright.
They say it takes a mountain to make a difference
Ride a catch or second guess before the big sleep.

Wow, can it get any more nasal and whiny?

Hmmm. Never heard of these folks. But I sure wouldn't mind hearing more. This is really enjoyable.
Glad to see you like this. Since you do, I highly recommend investigating the various incarnations of this band and its members.
It all started as 'Uncle Tupelo', then the band split into 'Wilco' and 'Son Volt'. Now Jay Farrar is doin' his own thing, and Jeff Tweedy has another project too: the name escapes me. If you like this, you'll probably like the whole gamut. I would start with 'Uncle Tupelo': there's plenty of material there...

I love this trak. Can't help but move to it!
I miss SunVolt.
This album took a long while to grow on me. Now, I listen to it regularly. Nothing will ever top "Trace" but this is a good solo record.
This song reminds me of hitch hiking in my youth. Waiting, wanting, waiting, believing, not believing.
Pissed, not wanting, and finally relief. Warm up the hands, make the introductions, try to find commonalities or middle road.
And then back out into the cold.
Waiting, wanting, waiting. And finally getting.
There.
Home.

Another nod to the RP comments and the wealth of info here. I had posted how much these guys sound like Sun Volt.... Ta Dahh!

I'm with you. Indifferent.

Love this song especially the Hammond/Leslie type keys!

Dammit, Bill! I'm ready to go to bed here, but you won't let up on the great tunes. *Sigh* another sleepless RP nite.

Love sunvolt, I'll have to check out this solo album. I hope sunvolt's not done though?
Son Volt's not done. They "reformed" last year (basially a whole new band besides Jay) and cut a new record which is In Stores Now. I'm still working through it, there's definitely some good stuff on there but I can't yet say whether or not it's as good as the three albums he did with the original members.
This is really a well crafted record, but this guys voice just drones and drones.
Sounds a lot like Carbon Leaf.

This song snuck up on me when I wasn't listening. So I downloaded it and started listening to it, and although I still can't hear whatever it was that thought I heard when I wasn't quite paying attention, I stopped trying to listen so hard, and I started liking the song, a LOT.
Go figure...

Don't know why this seems to bore everyone. I think it's sweet.
I'll pass.
Not as crazy about the Jay solo albums as I am about Son Volt.
That organ sound is way too prominent. Not sure if my speakers or what but piercing!

I agree. I have felt the same way about Uncle Tupelo (whom Farrar played with originally), and the offshoot bands Wilco & Sunvolt. But without fail it all grows on me! Just plain old good stuff!

I like this. Never heard of this guy before. Love getting turned onto new music. Some good stuff out there I'd never discover on commercial radio. Thanx.
Good stuff as usual from Jay.
Sounds like they have a key sticking.
yawn.

Jay's always been a favorite of mine. Slipped down the charts for me a bit... but this record is, if not a return to form, a nice resurgence...
New to me but I like the sound, a little like ELP. \:D/
:D Nice to here Jay farrar on the radio. He\'s got a new one coming out June 24. Oh boy.
