This tune reminds me of my buddy Casey in Chicago... we used to listen to Panic and the Dead and a plethora of other jam bands, and sometimes when we would get drunk - we would laugh and dance with the music loud...  just happy and simple and joyful.

I didn't realise you were in charge round here.  Quick question though - what is the point of the comments, in your opinion?  Is it a circle jerk designed to reinforce whatever you happen to think at any one time?

PS.  My parents died in 1994 and they didn't have a basement.

the WSP lads came over to party after they played a gig at a Chapel Hill, NC bar one night, circa 1988 until the wee hrs of the mornings, at the time they were a little known Athens, GA band. Gifted musicians and very nice guys. Hatfield was one of my favorites circa 1993 when I was a white water guide on the Chattooga River on the GA/SC border. I got turned on to Big Head Todd around that same time and just saw them play here in SoCal last month. River memories...

There's too much of that in these comment threads anyhow, often from people who seem to know little about music history and/or theory.  It's a damn synthesizer in this song; they've been widely used in popular music for over 50 years.

To me this seems like a sound which long preceded either band.  Plenty of bands from the 1960s and '70s had tunes with this sort of mildly psychedelic groove.  I guess we all hear different things though.

RP gang.  This station is amazing.  I'm a big time widespread panic fan, and your panic collection has room for improvement.  I think the RP fans would really love some of the other parts of WP's portfolio...  Try "Wondering", "Diner", "Jack", "Surprise Valley", "I'm Not Alone" and on it goes...

I bought Widespread Panic's Don't Tell the Band because I heard Little Lilly on RP.  I like this band a lot & I'm amazed I hadn't heard of them before.  I played them for my 72 year old mom the other day and she was thrilled!

This is one of the most underrated bands around. Try "Surprise Valley" off "Til The Medicine Takes"..one of the most tremendous guitar lead-ins around. Or "Chilly Water" or "Space Wrangler" off the Space Wrangler album. If sooooo many American Bands sound like this, why dont they have a following compared to the Grateful Dead as these guys do?
